England World Cup Squad
Started by: grimshaw (1120)  Report abuse
Gareth Southgate is due to name his 23 strong world cup squad next week.

Just wondered if anyone would care to have a stab at naming the players they think he should pick .

Come on footie fans ,thinking caps on .

makes no difference they'll be out at the quarters maybe before! england will never win owt ever again, too many past present and probably future managers picking the name before the player..

Doesn't matter who he picks they won't play with pride and passion.

We never do anything at World Cup's with all the big name stars , so I'd like him to pick a large number of younger lads from the u23 mixed with a few senior steady reliable players. we have nothing to loose and it may give them experience for future campaigns.
But it wont happen to scared. That's my take on it

Harry Kane and 22 more. Grimshaw. Home before postcards again.

isnt it great that we have so much "home" support ? .

Posted by: laughing gravy (3716) Report abuse
so i take it youu will be shouting for the HOME team in the champions league final then whups?

Currently available at 18/1. Not many naming a squad. I remember when it was a case of which star to leave out rather than scratching round to get a team. Poor state of affairs. Who / what is to blame??

here is a couple he most definitely should not pick
jordan henderson and eric dier

will you sick man , oh but i think you will as your team is l/pool isnt it kd ? .

Posted by: laughing gravy (3716) Report abuse
well will you or will your backtracking win you a gold medal?

Posted by: whups (2967)  Report abuse
you take the biscut on that 1 sick man & it seems you cant come up with anything original can you .

Posted by: grimshaw (1120)  Report abuse
I take your point blackrod .

I would take a few youngsters but i doubt if he will .One young player i would take is Grealish of the villa .
I know he his only playing in the championship but he is one terrific player who is clearly blossoming with input from steve bruce ,One for the future without doubt .

Probably go with his old brigade with no surprises in his squad..

Grimshaw one pundit once said
'You don't win anything with kids' he was proved wrong , would love Southgate to give them a try, but like you commented the OLD brigade

Posted by: broady (13424)   Report abuse
Who are the kids?? I canít think of one world class English footballer. Maybe Kane can reach those heights but you have to do it at major championships to get there.

broady jamie vardy is a class act.
remember when we won in 1966 how many world class players did we have then.
banks ,moore , bobby charlton?
certainly j charlton ,both full backs ball and stiles where only workmanlike.

Three out of eleven isnít bad. Was Greaves not in the original squad?

Given i asked the question here is my thinking on Southgates squad ahead of his 1.00 p m announcement .

Pickford , Butland and Pope.

Trent Alexander,Walker,Stones .Jones ,Maguire,Rose,Sessegnon, Cahill..

Wilshere,Dier,Grealish,Alli,Stirling ,Henderson,Delph,Lingard.?

Kane, Vardy,Rashford,Welbeck.

...Connor Coady...Dark horse.

Posted by: baker boy (13952) Report abuse
is it running today and at which track

His mother was born in Poolstock...

Like thee...

grimshaw
welbeck and rashford are not up to scratch as class international strikers,no way i would take cahill, play walker at centre back, then when he make's a mistake at least he has the pace to catch the bugger.take any one with genuine pace at the back regardless of who he was/which club he plays at.
wiltshire loses the ball and has no pace, dier is as his name says and henderson is lacklustre and immobile.
the only time he runs his for his half time orange.

Name your squad then b b.

Posted by: jont65 (124) Report abuse
Walker made a mistake against latics in the FA cup but couldn't catch Will Grigg

Posted by: baker boy (13952) Report abuse
bet he could, grigg let fly early cause he knew what was coming,he admitted such.

Posted by: baker boy (13952) Report abuse
would not take henderson, dier welbeck and cahill not up to the mark.rashford looks like he can do the business then no or little end product.

So who would you have taken b b .?

I am staggered by the obvious lack of midfield creativity in Southgates squad.

Surely wilshere would have been a better option .

I concur re dier but i can see the thinking in taking him .
