I hope this is not spoilt.

Mine was a 3-3 draw against Beech Hill. The BH side had, Tommy Berry(RIP) Ossie Wilf Aspey and many more.

Not a football man but remembr Wilf Aspey, George Speakman, Johnny Ellison, Phil Brammy, Ernie Bowen,Graham Crook etc when they played for Ince Parish . Parish had the bottom right hand dressing room at William Fosters and Rose Bridge rugby had bottom left dressing room, many good after match conversations and still friends with many of them.

Hi joemaplin that ratty could cause some trouble on the pitch.

I just loved to play with him.

About five years since he passed away. God Bless him.

The Wigan Cup Second Round tie between Appley Bridge and Ince Parrish from 1984-85 was a cracking match , played at the Bridge , with no quarter given ! I think that Sid Wallace got the winner for Ince ( 1-0 ) who was a well known name in the Wigan Amateur League at that time . Ince met Bryn F.C. in the Final at Springfield Park the following May , but don't remember the score .
FP , I note that Makerfield Mill won the Wigan Cup in 1960-61 .... very prestigious competition at one time , the Wigan Cup

There is a pic of the Makerfield Mill team on the sports section.

Thank you FP , will take a look . Good thread this because it is of interest to lots of people , with most small villages having their own local football team I used to watch Appley Bridge when they played in the late summer evenings and sometimes Almond Brook Celtic . Saw some great games against Heskin , who had a very good team in the early 1970's !

i played for victoria , platt bridge 80's when norman hickson ran us. we played wigan town at their place, jimmy wilson, scaz, sid wallace, eddie cleary, dave mcmullen etc. we were losing 3-0 after 15 mins, norman was not happy !!! mark edwards played for us at the time and he started to run the show, couldn't handle him. we ran out 5-3 winners, some game that was.

Tony , is that the same Dave McMullen who played for Latics in the late 70's and then went on to play for Northwich Victoria ? Also , did Sid Wallace not play for Latics Reserves for a spell , can't remember now ?

Posted by: broady (12707)   Report abuse
Did Sid Wallace not finish up playing in Ireland??

Posted by: tony j (638)  Report abuse
same one rover and i think sid did play for the reserves at one point. he went to play in ireland for waterford i think. mark edwards who played for us played for chorley and stalybridge i seem to recall.

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10742)  Report abuse
Sid Wallace went from Everton to Waterford. he had about five years there and is still adored by their fans.

When he came home to Wigan he did play a few games for the Latics reserves.

It is the same Dave McMullen.

Tony Mark Edwards was another who was vastly underated.

How many out of the five did you score?

Posted by: tony j (638)  Report abuse
didn't score any pat, played centre half , was in the veteran stage then !! right about mark, so quick and one hell of a left foot.

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10742)  Report abuse
I bet there were some choice words, from Sid after the game.

Posted by: jarvo (27741)  Report abuse
Mark Edwards, Burnden, November 1986...

He did the damage against the poorest Wolves side in living memory.

Wigan 1 v 7 Warrington.

The Lancashire inter league final at Springfield Park.

We played Wigan off the park.

The wigan side included Mark Calter, Brent Atherton and Paul Roby.

How come you played for Warrington FP ?

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10742)  Report abuse
I was at Aston Town who were in the Warrington League.

Posted by: fordie (655) Report abuse
fp should it be Francis Calter not Mark.

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10742)  Report abuse
Sorry about that. I was a good friend of Mark(RIP)

Barcelona-Real Madrid: 2-2 7th October 2012

I presume it was an amateur game and no one got paid, the two star players and the manager didn't pay any tax on it anyway!

Posted by: aussie94 (1582) Report abuse
fireplace to be honest my memory of particular games is not good . i remember the names and the good times at Edge hall , I remember the fundraiserc put on by Kevin Dooney and Eric Smith. Great times in the late 60s

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10742)  Report abuse
So true aussie 94.

Great times for the players of all codes.

The crack after the game and in Wigan at night with the players you had kicked lumps of.

Vague recollection after that. We were in the pub at the top of the road before we left. Could have been named the Station??
