I remember the Ishmael's farm from the early to mid 1960's, used to go for spuds and eggs, glad to hear they are still farming there.

azzurre: I started my family tree almost a year and a half ago, but just when I think I've come to the last link, up pops another. It's amazing. I've already had one reunion with three of Mam's cousins that she had only seen once, and hopefully, there's to be another reunion two weeks today with other cousins and family that Mam hadn't had regular contact with. I can't wait.

There was some Ishmaels who lived on Milton Grove in Orrell. They had a daughter called Valerie who will be in her early 50's now. Think they used to have a milk round.

Not Genealogy, but interesting. When I worked at Orrell U.D.C. the stonemason who worked on the Ishmael's farm in the 70's told me that the timbers of the farmhouse were already second-hand when it was originally built in the 1600's,coming from broken-up Galleons.

The dairy in Pemberton is at Richmond Hill, It was owned by Richard Ishmael -- who lived in Milton Grove, Orrell -- now owned I believe by his son or daughter Valerie
and rented out, used as a joinery shop now, by a firm called Owens. the approximate postcode is WN5 8AA

Hope this helps

Hello Carol
Yes Ok I would like to find out more about the Gaskell side of the family. Do you have any pictures of Vera Jane? I remember Bob Gaskell quite well, he lived just off Wigan Lane. Oswald Gaskell was Steward at Up Holland Conservative club for a number of years. I do have some photos that may be of interest to you. George William Ishmael had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Richard (my father) had the milk business in Richmond Hill Pemberton, Bill was the farmer at gathurst (now retired) the farm is now run by his son David and family. John Ishmael who now lives in Knutsford. Margaret (Peggy) worked in the milk business delivering milk with a horse and cart, in Pemberton and Orrell. Betty Ishmael was a school teacher, and then Head mistress at a school in Ashton.
Carol you have also been in touch with my daughter Catherine?
Bye for now
Derek
(in sunny Orrell)

Hello Carol

Yes i live local. It would be good to look at the information you have on the family tree.
I am not sure about 2 of George Williams children being born in Up Holland. But I can confirm that 1 was. Vera Jane went to stay with her sister for the birth.
How do i get your email address, or give you mine without giving it to everyone.

Only got to get a proper photo of Great Aunty Beatrice now and I've got the four of them, (John Tomas, Robert, Peter and Beatrice). I'm looking for children of Beatrice Lee (nee McSorley) and Martin Lee. I can find two birth records for Martin McSorley and Joseph Lee McSorley (or it could be McSorley - Lee) but there are several others including Sarah and Norah that I can't find on the lancashirebmd. One can only assume they were born outside the district.

not sure azzurre, Sarah is still alive but I can't find out where she lives. I think her married name is Green, another name that could apply to thousands. I seem to have heard the name John Green mentioned so maybe this was her husband, but then again I have no dates. Will try to find out.
