How of you spent your first holiday in the Isle of Man.Just a few of the places we used to go.Summerland, the Casino and The lido.O and what about the midnight boat from Liverpool.

We used to go into place called The Villiers or similar. I think there was also a bar called the Hawaiian Bar on the front near the casino. This would be around 1966-1968.

There was an Hawaiian Bar, but as I was 16 when I first went, I couldn't go in.

My friend and I went over for a long weekend back in 1967. We took the little train up to Fairy Glen, and all in all had a fabulous time.

The year after another friend and I went for a week and had a blast.

Great place for a holiday.

Just remembered the Falcon Cliffs, I think that you could use the lift to go to this pub.The horse drawn cart.

WENT IN 1964 ON MY HONEYMOON.SAW THE HOLLIES.AND SAW ZULU ON PICTURES.

We used to catch the midnight boat to Douglas. spent most of the afternoons & evenings in Villa Marina & the Palace ballroom dancing to THE BIG BANDS met Cleo Lne ,she was singing with The Squadrenairs. She was about 20 then I was 16 the summer of 1952.We rode the horse tram to ONchan head-the Pleasure beach.I saw Cleo & Johnnie in Kelowna 2 yrs ago What a concert! Peter

We went for 3 to 4 years in the 50s , Spent a lot of time in the Texas Bar near Onchan Head, Also the Villa Marina, remember lying on the grass in the sun listening to Ivy Benson & her all girls Band, The Darby Castle , Bowling Green Pub up Darby road, Hirering Scooters & riding round the island, Wish those day were back.

Hi tumtingle you had to be over 21 to go into the texes bar at that time but we got in ,the Strand was the best place to go at night the Globe and Strand pubs best in the street in 57 to 60 and no Sunday opening at that time

Went to the Isle in 1973; it was just before the Summerland Disaster. We used to go to the Underground Disco in the Summerland; the DJ was Johnnie Silvo from Holland...I shed a tear on the day Summerland caught fire...

I've been to the Isle of Man many times. It takes me a day and a half to get over the ferry crossing, so I go on the plane now and ride someone elses bike!

Been over for the Manx TT I think that was in the September of 1962 a lot of riders got killed both in the race and on mad Sunday after that year I think they change some things for safety

Firstn holiday. Isle of Man 1939.
Stayed at Cunninhams Holiday Camp.
11 of us from Bryn Gates and Ashton and had a great time.
Three of us stayed in a bungalow I don't remember whether the rest were in bungalows or Chalets.
Good food, eat as much as you want.
The price.
Bungalow £2-9-0. All included
Chalets £2-5-0. " "
I believe the camp was a POW camp during the war.
I don't know what happened after that.
I still have photos of the gang.

Norman , I remember my uncle Tommy Chisnall talking about going to Cunninghams camp with David Tabiner & others, By the way were you related to Jake Prior From Simms Road,

I believe Jake Prior was a cousin or 2nd cousin to my father. I met him a few times when we went in the Simms Rd Inn.
That was just after the war years.
Even though I lived in Middleton M/C.We used to come over regularly to Downhall Green.

There was also Tommy Prior. my dad's cousin lived at Simms Rd ends.
He will be dead and gone by now and having been away so long I don't know if any offsprings are in that area

Norman, I know that Jakes Grandson lives in Bryn but he dosen't post on here as far as i know,

Me and my wife and kids were in Summerland the week before it burnt down. That was the first and last time on the I.O.M.

Used to get off the midnight boat, straight into the cafe for breakfeast.I was there one time frank with, Johnny Evans and Walt Stanley.

I first went to Port Erin on a school holiday in my last year at Shevington Junior School. We flew (my very first flight). It must have been around 1967. We flew from Liverpool on Cambrian airways.

We stayed at Erin house and had a great time.

Does anyone from Schvington Junior School remember the trip?

Went in 1946/7 with Roy Sherry, and Cliff Roper, the three of us still pals,(the 3 on the right of my heading pic) stayed at Cunninghams Camp, caught the midnight ferry, one of the worst trips ever, blowing a gale everyone hanging over the side, but we made up for it once we arrived.

I have a photo somewhere of my brother Clifton Green and Jack Ashurst in their first long trousers taken on the steps of the hut at Cunningham Camp

went to the isle of man in 1967, five of us aged 17 to 19 years old, fantastic time! we just up and went on the last minute, hired a tent on thursday and caught the midnight ferry friday night, camped in a farmers field outside douglas and had some great nights in the villiers pub, when asked by the girls what hotel we were staying we had to change the subject, but a great time, ahh the memories.

went to IOM in about 1962 with school (pem sec mod)was late getting there pitched tent in the grave yard at Braddon bridge church woke morning to a outdoor sermon,we pitched in wrong feild

Went to Isle of Man in 1985 for the Rugby League Charity Shield Final between Wigan and Hull. Fantastic time had by all! Remember going to the Lido and the Casino and having a pint with Henderson Gill.

Do any of you remember this place? Joe's Bar.
Left to right, Roy/Tom Sherry. Jack Nissel(Deceased.) Myself, don't know who the kid sat on the floor is, he tagged on to us nearly all week.

JUST LOGGED ON WENT TO IOM 1966 TO 1969 STAYED AT THE VILLIERS HOTEL PINT OF DOUBLE DIAMOND 2 BOB IN THEM DAYS USED TO LISTEN TO RADIO CAROLINE ON THE OLD TRANNY RADIO WHILST LYING ON THE BEACH ALSO STAYED AT THE DOUGLAS BAY HOTEL ON ONCHAN HEAD BEEN DEMOLISHED NOW RODE DOWN PROM ON THE HORSE TRAM WENT TO HAWIIAN BAR GREAT DAYS WENT BACK IN 1999 HALF THE HOTELS WERE BOARDED UP WONDER IF ANYBODY HAS BEEN RECENTLY LET US KNOW.

I thought about going in June or July for a day.Just to have alook round.Not cheap,£77 in June, £40 in July.Think I will give it a miss.That is from liverpool on the boat.
