I think a guy from McAlpines owned it in the 70’s. His name was Murphy ( yes he came from Ireland’s)

I think the property is owned by the Bithell family scrap metal people on Wigan Lane. Anyway Mrs Bithell rented it out but wanted the couple who rented it to keep repairs up, this did not prove cost effective as i think amongst all they did it eventually needed a new roof.

Yes Peter they own it but were renting it out.
Replied: 30th Oct 2017 at 15:29
No. Silcocks don't own it. Arthur Silcock does, or did, as well as the Bellingham.

Is going to open up as a fine dining restraunt.
Replied: 5th Dec 2017 at 17:15
Fine dining, eh.?
Large white plate, a small serving of food in middle of the plate with a 'drizzle' on the empty bits to make it worth eating.
They'd may as well change the name to 'The Bel-End' !

Only be Wigan laners who can afford to dine there.British prices for dining out are disgraceful, and if you want a bottle of wine they really take the piss.300 per cent mark up the thieving barstewards.Went to Owd Nells 3 weeks ago and prices have doubled in 3 years, wages certainly haven't

Actually, British prices for 'dining out' aren't too bad. Well, in comparison to France and Spain, nowadays, they're very reasonable!

Lovely bar area.
We booked in for a Sunday lunch. Food was ok but not as good. Service was not very good I think the staff are still learning the ropes. In the middle of our meal two really good singers plugged in and performed a set which I enjoyed but which might have been better appreciated in the bar. I felt sorry for them.Another review,we won't be going
