whirley?

Started by: kathpressey (5590)

Whirley is listed as a baby's abode on a 1807 baptism at All Saints. is this a real place or is it transcribed wrong. Also can someone tell me where Smithy Brook was /is in Pemberton?

Kath, Hilly asked about Whirley (Thread, Apr 2016) and Jazzy found the following:

An Archaeological and Historical Magazine Chiefly Relating to the Lancashire and Cheshire, Volume 1 published 1880 and the extract clearly states: "Whelley, commonly pronounced Whirley..."

Hello Kath , IF you know ST.PAUL CHURCH at Warrington rd and ST.PAUL'S AVENUE , can you remember the old vinegar works on warrington rd? IF you do you turn right at st pauls ave onto warrington rd for about 75 yards cross over and on that side of the vinegar works SMITHY BROOK LANE RAN JUST LEFT PAST THE WORKS. Now there are traffic lights it's all changed when you turn left up the lane there are quite of lot of new business's on your left ,on your right they are building new house which would have been the rear of Little lane. SO iif you carry on up Smithy brook lane at the top you bear right which brings you onto LITTLE LANE UP TO THE T/LIGHTS AND BILLINGE ROAD ACROSS IS WHERE YOU ARE FROM TUNSTALL LANE. I HOPE THIS HAS NOT CONFUSED YOU ,HOPE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE ALL KEEPING WELL G.B.
