Life will never be the same again
I just wish it opened at night occasionally .

I-spy, Farrimonds was always a must have for me, but.....

Farrimonds Chippy was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 1 (Major Improvement Necessary) by Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council on 6th November, 2014.

That's pretty poor, so maybe they lost a lot of customers!

If this is the one in Pepper Lane, it was crap anyway.

Posted by: Jazzy (8509)   Report abuse

Posted by: dodger (3414) Report abuse
Never tried the one near the Globe, I-Spy, but I didn't like the Pepper Lane one.

I used to go to Farrimond's for my dinner when I worked at Richardson's Chemists when it first opened in Standish. It was then across the road at 81 High Street, and it was 1970. I worked there for three years. Last year a friend took me to Standish and I went in Farrimond's and it was as if I'd been in the day before as a young girl......it hadn't changed a bit!

Does anyone know someone in the Farrimond family? Could you tell them I believe I have interesting family information for them..Thank you.

Irene said, "Last year a friend took me to Standish and I went in Farrimond's and it was as if I'd been in the day before as a young girl......it hadn't changed a bit!"

That's probably why it's got such a low rating. They don't only expect cleanliness and good food just doesn't count for them men! (not that I've ever been to Farrimond's, laaaaike!) (but there was a Farrimond's in Springfield wasn't there? Springfield? Where's that? is it Gidlow Lane?) (It was Mark Farrimond's relative)

Posted by: Jazzy (8509)   Report abuse

finding a good chippy is a long ardous road, full of abysmal shops.been to banny's chippy at boundary mill, colne recently.
not too expensive and the best I have eaten for a while.

Posted by: tonker (18947)   Report abuse
TIPEC North West have frequent 'chippy tea' drive-outs to Banny's Chippy, but I've never been!

If it's as good as Earl Street Chippy used to be, in the seventies, laaaaike, it'll be worth it, raaaaight?

Green Lane Chippy at Leigh is good.

I always felt there was too much batter on the fish at the Earl street chippy

Posted by: tonker (18947)   Report abuse
The batter is what cooks the fish proper. No batter means a not properly cooked fish! Raaaaaight?
You can always leave what batter you don't want to eat. Laaaaike!
I laaaaike crispy batter, laaaaike, from t'chippy, raaaaight?
When av bin oyt fer a raaaaide on t'baaaaike, laaaaike!

Went in once and the person I went in with ate all my chips

Posted by: i-spy (13325)  Report abuse
A gull pinched my fish in Llandudno

Posted by: i-spy (13325)  Report abuse
Cooking cod, hake or haddock in a super-crispy batter made from sparkling water steams the fish so it's really moist.
Thought you'd like to know

Posted by: tonker (18947)   Report abuse
Indeed. Whenever fish is deep-fried, the batter that coats it instantly seals around the fish and forms it's own little oven. There should be ho holes in the batter and no oil should touch the fish.
(from my mate, Tom, who's a qualified chef and has his own chippy after owning two restaurants in the past)

I-spy. A gull in Llandudno ate lots of fish and pies, sausage rolls and anything edible in anybodies hands.they watch and wait....

In the 60's, paid monthly, and on pay day used to treat me and my dad to a fish and chip supper from Farrimonds, I think it was 1s 6d for a large one.
