It is in the 'Park/Garden' opposite Mitchell Street at Newtown, which is across the road (Victoria Street) from Alexandra Park at Newtown, so I don;t know if that is classed as Alexandra Park too

There is also one in a small memorial garden in Chapel Street, Pemberton.
It is opposite where Jem Lowes (The Dog and Partridge) used to be.

That's awful to know, has the pub been demolished, I remember well the craic of the tap room with the sounds of shuffling dominoes, the knock on's and the jingling of won ha'pennies being counted to go towards the next round, and not forgetting the ever present blue haze of tobacco smoke.

ayrefield, Jem Lowes is now a Dentistry building of some description. Happy days in there.

It was a dentistry building, but it closed down.

That statue has already been targeted by sick vandals. I think some a-----e has tried to burn it.

Sorry to learn that, Jarvo, it's a shame that most public sculptures are vulnerable to vandalism.

Jo anne: Being made of wood will not stand it in good stead.
I'm sorry to have to say this, but it looks cheap and isn't a worthy memorial to the men that died it that awful conflict.
My opinion.

I wouldn't be sorry to say it, Jarvo; it's your opinion, and it might well be shared by others.

When I first saw the headline I thought it was the one in the park,I know it dissapeard and now still wondering if it has been found and re-enstated in the Park.
Looking aAT THIS one at the enlargement of the face it is beautifully done you can more or less feel its alve the expression on it

Elizabeth, the Boer War soldier from Mesnes Park hasn't been found, but a replacement statue was installed in Dec 2013 - Thread.

I think its beautiful, but must agree with Jarvo its probably not very practical. Vandalism, what a sad world we live in, when monuments like this are damaged.

Mick, over on WW Forum, has told me the one in Pem was on Photo-a-Day Fri, 20th March, 2015 - link
Some of the comments are quite critical of it.
