Name for new road wanted

Started by: ayrefield (4465)

In this months Borough Life magazine the council want the public of Wigan to come up with an apt name for the new road leading off Pottery Road to the Saddle junction, I'm sure there will be some very apt names coming in for that, especially about the council cock ups that have taken place around there over the years.

Passing thought.

Who was the Adam of 'Adam Bridge and 'Adam Viaduct' fame?

I think 'Adam Viaduct' has only recently been coined.

Proper name for bridge is douglas bridge so was ADAM name of designer?

Replied: 7th Mar 2012 at 17:28

Posted by: dostaf (inactive)

I'm sure 'Adam Bridge' is carved into the parapet.

There's a thought, and a bus/coach connection.

How's about a bit of PC balance and call it Eve's Way?

Also a tribute to a 'Wigan' tour operator. (Telegram for Tonker )

'Wallace, chief engineer of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway, designed the rebuilding of this four-span railway viaduct. It was the first bridge in the country to carry live railway loads on pre-stressed precast concrete beams.'

Wallace Way then.

It's well known that he and Gromit are from Wigan.

Was West Walaby Street in the area?

With the road going through the old bus depot maybe they should just call it Bus Lane, that'll cause some confusion which the council traffic department are good at.
