thats because of some people attitude when some one comments about a team or a player

proper supporters will criticise there players/team if there not playing well and agree with others, not start coming out with loads of grief towards others

i worked with someone who had a season ticket for Utd for 20 years and he used to miss his morgage and what ever he could to make sure he paid for this. He also followed them all over Europe but if at anytime they played bad he was the first to slag them off and say "they were a disgrace, an embarrassment and such a player should be sold and tey deserved to lose playing like that".

Now thats what i call a proper supporter, someone who can critcise his own team when they play bad.

I also think that a few people on here, who claim to be proper supporters, should take a leaf out of his book and realise that no matter how good a team is they are never going to be unbeatable.

Yep, lose a game and slag your team off. No one has the divine right to win every game, talk about getting behind your team. I wouldn't call your 'friend' a supporter, swifty. Stick by the team through thick and thin, that's a supporter.

Replied: 25th Jan 2010 at 09:29

he did, even when they lost and got humiliated he still carried on following them everywhere

he still renewed his season ticket every year whether they won anything or nothing

thats why he is a proper supporter

I have a different thought on that, I wouldn't call him a supporter at all.

Replied: 25th Jan 2010 at 20:21

Posted by: swifty (212)

Gwim my point is he would slag them off when they played bad and praise them when they played good where as some people will not criticise the team/players no matter how bad they played

i think that is a true supporter, speaks his mind and still follows them everywhere

My opinion is that Supporters support through thick and thin. We share in the delight when our team are playing well and winning and we get behind them when they are not. We share our thoughts at what we think went wrong and who didnt play great. We post our opinions on what may be an answer to the problem - constructive criticism. All in all, we support our team through these lower times with encouragement and let them know they never stand alone, we are the 12th player. We 'believe'.
I am a supporter.

I think Swifty is correct.

Anyone who follows a team (in whatever sport), for year after year, and followed them abroad is a supporter.

Calling your team rubbish or slagging them off etc etc, is voicing your matter of opinion.

"All in all, we support our team through these lower times with encouragement and let them know they never stand alone, we are the 12th player. We 'believe'."

I would say with regards to your comment (pasted above) that anyone who follows their team around Europe whether they win lose or draw is a supporter.

I am a supporter.

well i am glad for you

my opinion of a true supporter is different from yours

i'm not going to turn this into on of the many threads where people start arguing about who team is best, who gets the best crowds, who are the best supporters.

I am far to grown up to be brought down to that level
