Never go back?

Started by: aspuller (1835)

I've heard it said many times,"You should never go back"
Some time ago I had the urge to revisit the places we used to play, the walks around the fields, the ponds we used to fish around Aspull.I even visited Rhiw Rd in Colwyn Bay where we stayed on our annual holiday !
Most of these places had changed dramatically and some no longer existed ! I shouldn't have "gone back",I ought to have left the places... safe in my imagination.
Has anyone else done these things and then wished they hadn't ?

Definitely, some places brought back great memories, some were unrecognisable. I went with my children to visit their old school and they said they remembered it as being much bigger, I think when you are young everything seems much bigger.

I decided to go back...

...back to the time when the earth was green and there were no high walls and the sea was clean...
Don't stop that sun to shine...
It's not yours or mine...
No...

ive done that but also dont watch films that u think will take u back cos it dosnt happen u tend to think wot a load of bunkham or i dont remember it being like that,so i now keep the past where it belongs in the past and remember my memories fondly and with childhood eyes

I've been 'going back' in a massive way, to places I left behind 50 and 60 years ago. When places still exist, sometimes with a face-lift, I have been thrilled. When still there but serving a different purpose I have been disappointed. And when gone, usually to make way for something of less significance or usefulness, I have been saddened. All that said, I still want to do it. I need to satisfy my curiosity.

The old adage 'Never go back' means, I believe, don't regress, continue to make progress.
