USERNAMES
We've had a thread asking why people chose a particular avatar, but I've been on forums such as this for around five years now, some for a little less time, but it fascinates me why people choose their usernames. Some are obvious. You get men registering with women's names, and women registering with a man's name.
Why did you choose your username? Mine's very simple. I chose Mollie M because my name actually is Mollie, and my maiden name began with M!

Hi mollie, i chose mine because its my daughters nickname.

I have had the same one since I started using these forums, and I like to think mine is self explanatory, but for the uninitiated, I love driving always have, it being a big part of my working life, so I thought the road runner summed up what I was about, the one I use on here at present is just a wake up call to tell me I am putting on too much weight, it will be changed back shortly when I have had my yearly medical MOT

Hiya Custard! Why is your daughter's nickname Custert?
Aitch, you've always been Aitch as long as I've known you on the forums, and to me it is self-explanatory!

I chose mine 'cos I'm a natural blonde and though I'm not dizzy all the time, it sticks. It's all these bleached/highlighted brunettes/auburns/sandys who give us naturals a bad name. As for avatars - who're they???

I'd like to think that mine speaks for itself and those that know me will know that it does!

I chose mine mainly because I LOVE cats. We once had a cat many moons ago that wouldn't eat cat food and the dog next door wouldn't eat dog food, they use to change houses and eat whatever what put down there. One thing, the food was never wasted.

My current one was chosen whilst reading a rather excellent book by Tim Severin at the time, strangely entitled Odin's Child (How spooky is that!)

What I don't understand though is, why have a username, yet put your real names on in your profiles? Each to their own, of course, but I'd feel weird somebody calling me a name other than my own, on forums. It's interesting to read the origins of them though.

Just found this........
"Unwin's parents emigrated from the United Kingdom to South Africa in the early 1900s, and Stanley was born in Pretoria in 1911. Following his father's death in 1914 his mother arranged for the family to return to the United Kingdom. By 1919, Stanley had been sent to the National Children's Home at Congleton in Cheshire."

Well, I wanted to use Hindleyite, as I do in most other places, but I noticed it had already been taken. Some people misinterpreted my nickname as 'Hindleyak', so it kind of evolved and I use it as a backup name now.

Mine is named after a granada banjo which the great Earl Scruggs owned in his early days. It was made in 1934,hence the name! Only wish I could play one though, any banjo I mean not just the 1934 one
Replied: 18th Mar 2009 at 20:44
Now that is interesting, Granada. I used to love listening to Flatt & Scruggs.
