Chip pon.

Started by: jathbee (11463)

I have just retired my chip pon and bought a deep fat fryer. I have had the same chip pon for forty years, so it was with some reluctance that I replaced it. I was wondering if anyone else still uses a chip pon.

That's what we are having tonight. Home made chip, fish and mushy peas.

I got my chip pon with No.6 coupons, so that pon was good value and served me and my family well. R.I.P. chip pon.

Chip pon is better than a fryer, they don't taste the same from a fryer.

My husband wouldn't let me throw the old chip pan out, 'tis resting in a dark corner of a cupboard. I'll see how I get on with this new fangled fryer and if we don't suit each other, I may well resurrect old faithful

Remember when HRH Elizabeth went to bed early, after a few drinks at Windsor Castle, and left the chip pon on?

I remember the fire, Tonker, in that Annus Horribilis, but I'm sure the Queen was not cooking chips.

(If I agree with you, it seems I might have had my chips!)

Aye, and with a crinkle cutter.

Having your crinkle cut sounds nasty. Still it'll teach 'em a lesson.

Dostaf, I thought the oil was your idea for punishing ww'ers for treason. (Not me.) Glad it's just for unsavoury snacks.

We don't use a chip pan or deep fat fryer - our chips come in bags ...

from the freezer.

On a more serious note. We had a fire assessment done by the fire service and the only recommendation they made was to get a fryer, because lots of house fires are caused by chip pans. I have never left ours, even for a few minutes but there's always a first time.

Jathbee - in April I linked to a news story where firefighters were giving away deep fat fryers in Wigan & Leigh areas.

There's useful information that still applies, but I'm not sure if there are any deep fat fryers available now.

Deep fat fryer, well, this reminds me of a former job. We had to call them "deep fryers," so as not to offend those who used oil. Seriously, it's true.
