I love 'Whistle Down the Wind', too.

I also delighted in watching An Inspector Calls and Hobson's Choice, having enjoyed reading the plays.

'A Christmas Carol' is another one of my favourite films - in any colour!

Brief Encounter (1945) is a great film. I never tire of looking on the internet(!) - you can discover many interesting additional facts and details about films to gain a deeper insight into how they were created and the impacts they had at their time and onwards.

I'm not really enough of an 'old film' buff to be able to talk about lots of others, but I'm sure I'd reely love watching many more!

Spring and Port Wine is one of my favourites. Pity it wasn't filmed around Wigan instead of Bolton though.

This Sporting Life
with Richard Harris as a gritty rugby league player is a Northern classic but rarely put on tv.

The author was born in Leigh; JH is James Hilton and he's mentioned on wigan world.

It is a beautiful, sad film, Amanda.

Yes maddy and there are quite a few scenes where they are driving around the town centre. That's why I wish it had been filmed in Wigan, to capture a piece of history.

I have so many films I love and cherish: Blithe Spirit, Casablanca (the best B movie ever made!) in fact anything with dear Ingrid Bergman in! Africa Queen, Harvey, It's a Wonderful Life, A matter of Life and Death, Rebecca,The St Trinian's films for the joy of seeing Joyce Grenfell, The Carry Ons (for their cheap McGill humour and the fact that most were filmed in icy February - especially Camping when the mud was sprayed green to look like grass!), A Taste of Honey, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Blow Up, Citizen Kane, Prospero's Books, A Zed and 2 Noughts, The Piano, The Hours, In the Bleak Midwinter ( fantastic but rare!) ...

Too many to bore you with!
