Good point TerryW = our post clashed on timing so missed your it when first responding. I shall try and be patient with it, never had a problem before so it threw me. Thanks

I'm not on farcebook so it is not me slowing it down. I did read somewhere that using microwaves at the same time can slow everything down.

Peter only had this laptop a couple of months so haven't as yet. How often should it be done and is it easy to do? I'm a bit of a computer dunce with some but limited knowledge about a lot of tech 'stuff'. Perhaps I need to do a course on that type of stuff so there will be no need to panic if something goes wrong.

Beryh Do you have a PC or a Mac? If a MAC hold down command and tab at the same time and all the programs you are running on background will pop us. Delete them one by one.

I don't have a PC but if that is what you have, I am sure someone on here will be able to help you.

Running too many programs may not be your problem, of course, but it is worth a try.

Thank you peter I shall explore this.
whacker my new laptop is a chrome which I have found to be very different to my past computers and is taking some time to get used to, I even had to buy a new printer as couldn't
connect to it.
Have to say as I am now 2 and a half weeks into isolation/sheltering I have come to rely on social media quite a bit to keep in touch with everyone and just to know that there are people out there.

berylh I think a lot of people were having trouble with accessing parts of facebook.I would hesitate to cleanse anything on your computer at this time seeing that facebook is the only programme you are having trouble with.

Thank you fossil, I appreciate your comments. Since facebook came back online late last night all seems to be well, although confess to taking a deep breath each time I log on just in case.

Berylh at the top right of the page are 3 vertical dots. Click on these dots and it will show history. Click on history and this will show every thing you have opened. On the left of the screen it will show delete history. Click on this and it will give you a panel with time range- browsing history-cookies-and cached images and files. Tick each box and enter 4 weeks in time box then delets history.
