Two hours north of America are the third or fourth largest oil reserves in the world. Canada have been trying to get permission to ship it into there for ages but the usual 'save the world' prix have opposed it at every turn. Seems a lot of trouble to get something that is on your doorstep. I also think that in recent years the US have started to move towards being self sufficient with energy supplies.

Do a bit of googling. Canada sells oil to the US at reduced rates. You will note I said they have been trying to get a pipeline from Alberta to Texas for quite a while but legalities are continually thwarting their efforts. I’ll give you a clue. It is called the Keystone Pipeline.

Greenland is located geographically at a wonderful point from whence new owners could dominate Europe and even the Middle East from a comfortable and safe distance. Russia and China both covet it and have made overtures for possession. Russia - a failed state that is essentially a gas station with nuclear bombs - doesn't stand a chance. But China does.
