Trump has put our country at risk of yet more terrorist attacks and probably dragging us into yet another war. The man is insane.

After what happened in Iran when the Shah was overthrown in 1979 and the resulting American Embassy staff in Tehran being taken hostage, the Americans are understandably sensitive about anyone interfering with any of their embassies, so when this happened a couple of days ago.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-50956111

Considering the fact that it was the Iranians who were behind this attack on their embassy, you can understand why the Americans were not too chuffed about it ...

Iran is trying to take over Iraq, but the Americans still have bases there, there is still a large military presence in Iraq ....

And if you remember there was serious talk a few years ago about America and Israel attacking the Nuclear Material Manufacturing Facilities that the Iranians have, so all this could be a pretext for American and Israel military forces, going and kicking the living crap out of Iraq

That was 80 years ago. A world war.
I'd like to think we have moved on since then.
The yanks have got us involved with too many poinless wars in the last 30 years. Its about time they stood on their own two feet instead of asking for our support to help bail them out whenever they feel like causing bother. Britain has NEVER caused a war in my lifetime. Have they in yours? We have lost a lot of good servicemen through trouble which has had nothing to do with us

Two hours north of America are the third or fourth largest oil reserves in the world. Canada have been trying to get permission to ship it into there for ages but the usual 'save the world' prix have opposed it at every turn. Seems a lot of trouble to get something that is on your doorstep. I also think that in recent years the US have started to move towards being self sufficient with energy supplies.

It might be, you might do and 90% of Canadians might do too.

But what's that got to do with the price of butter? Or oil?

Europe, and the UK, gets oil from the USA, Australia, Africa ect., and that's a lot further than 5 hours travelling.

Do you think it incorrect that I mention it in response. Without all the fancy talk there is only one country two hours north of the USA.

"Let’s test your pipeline knowledge. I worked on a pretty substantial pipeline that skirted Wigan in 2000. The yard was at Gadbury Fold, Atherton. What was that for and where did it run?"

Spot on TTS. I was going to suggest googling but by all accounts that is bad form. Do you remember it? Went under the M6 near Wrightington turn off. ( Good paying job)

Broady, basic economics tells you that buying Greenland, and tapping it's oil reserves, would be a much more lucrative proposition than buying from Canada. That's all I was saying. I have no doubt that Canada is 2 hours north of the USA.

Buying Canada would be a good idea too, but I don't think it's on the market!

Tonker,
I never thought of Greenland. I would think drilling for oil and constructing a pipeline would be challenging. Greenpeace and the rest of the tree huggers wouldn’t be best pleased. As I type this it has flashed on my screen that Iran reports it has fired missiles at a US base in Iraq. Watch this space.

" .... Watch this space."

Why? Is Iran going to fire rockets at this thread too?

Greenland is located geographically at a wonderful point from whence new owners could dominate Europe and even the Middle East from a comfortable and safe distance. Russia and China both covet it and have made overtures for possession. Russia - a failed state that is essentially a gas station with nuclear bombs - doesn't stand a chance. But China does. Any price would be cheap for the Chicoms. That's why Trump is keeping an eye on it, and he will try to make sure it doesn't happen. This isn't only about money. It's about raw power and domination.
