Wench

You don't hear the word used very often nowadays.

Is it non PC?

Is it a word disappearing from usage.

When I was a kid, the word seemingly was being used with no disparagement implied.

None. PC don't allow (sexists comments?) any more. But it appears that magazines and the press and tv ads can show semi naked women, talk about double standards.

i don't think wench is a sexist term. It's just a local name for a girl same as lad for boys.i was quite happy to be called a bonny wench.i think it's just disappeared along with most dialect words

Always thought of it being a Middle Ages upper class description of a lower class young woman.

Can you not call women, birds or chicks anymore?

I know it was done but I don't think it was ever ok to call women birds or chicks.

No it was never okay to call women chick or birds, or a piece of skirt, or totty or any other term that denigrates women. They are not nor ever where a piece of meat. And no man with a grain of respect would ever use any of those terms. Just shows how "some men" think.

If "some people" was called a bird or a chick they should take it as a compliment

So, when women use the term 'Rock Chick' to describe their fashion style, are they being:
A Not derogatory
B Self derogatory
C Derogatory to all women?

I once made the mistake of referring to one lady as totty. I never saw it coming but I believe she would have made a very good boxer

"I know it was done but I don't think it was ever ok to call women birds or chicks."

Look in this weeks Wigan Observer. Page 19.
Three lady bikers, The Rivi Kickstart Chicks raising money for a good charity.

They have not got a problem being called "Chicks" And, quite rightly so.

Whats your opinion on that?

That's fine if they want to call themselves chicks then so be it. Anyone can refer to themselves by what ever term they wish and give others permission to do so. It is not ok however to assume that because these 4 woman have given the ok for them that it is then ok to refer to all women as chicks.
