Purely as a matter of interest, who do you think these people are? Have you ever met any? Have they got it in for you?

Interesting . . .

Don't think that they exist but they don't half get some stick.

They are an excellent group to blame when you don't have the answer to a problem and there's no-one else to point the finger at.

the PC brigade do exist and are doing fine.
No we don't know who they are, mores the pity.
They are those groups of anti-this or that who seem to be able to push society into behaving how they think they should.
We are dailyhaving our liberties curtailed -freedom of speech etc.-there has to be some people of opinions that

are pushing for these infringements on
our daily lives.
Whether you call them The PC brigade or
not doesn't really matter ,what matters is what is happening in our country and why.

They do exist!!

When I was a primary school governor, a few years ago, a governing body advisor underwent a 'PC' training course. He told us points including how we would be guilty of 'institutional racism' if we overheard a child say "s/he is having a paddy" and did not point out that was inappropriate.

I was brought up saying 'paddy' to mean angry outburst/tantrum - I'd never even thought it might not be PC.

That's just a minor example which stuck in my mind as it seemed so ludicrous, but the training course was quite extensive and covered many areas.

But do you not think the pendulum has stopped and begun to swing back Joanne?

The thing that irritates me is that any problem anywhere is always blamed on the "pc brigade"! Just like jamse says - a good scapegoat!

TBH I don't think there are a lot of people less "pc" than me; however I try to live my life as honestly as I can, I have green views and green politics if it comes to that!

I also think that if you are responsible for something you should admit to it, if you are concerned about a problem or an issue find out where the trouble lies . . . I'm just sick of this invisible group of people being given the blame so that the rest of us can moan and not really do anything about it!

Right ! I'm off. Have a good weekend people!

Do you believe everything you read on websites blue. I would be careful if that's the case. The web site you refer to is rubbish and proves nothing.

What was no surprise was that Midgley is considered to be on the right wing of the tory party, probably a leftie from where you stand but still over there.

No I certainly do not believe everthing

I read on any website, or newspaper, I

make my own mind up.

but

you have to

admit that some of the laws today and PC

awareness are stupid,

this site has contributions from all

different fractions, I cannot see where

saying PC is too much is Political.

One example - they are deporting that

poor bloke whose wife died through being

given a wrong injection while having a

baby

but will not deport known

terrorist supporters, this is a prime

example,

surely.

hi,
Idon't particularly care what groups are calledit's wht they want to force on society that I do mind.
The PC brigade in my mind is anyone who tries to impose their will on the rest of by trying to make us feel guilty if we don't follow suit.
Like those who say BA BA BLACK SHEEP IS RACIST or using the term Blackboard is wrong.
The anti smoking lobby.
Those who defend criminals rights above and beyond those of the rest of us.
Those who look down on parents if they try to discipline their children(not beat them up).
Fathers, grandfathers ,uncles etc. are made to feel fearful wandering what a cuddle to one their young relatives might be construed as.
Where decent people are criminalised when they try to defend their homes and property.
There are many more other ares where the views of others are imposing on our society.
Now I don't know who they all are or what they call themselves ,but I wish they'd bugger off.

So right, they are proposing to put cigerettes under the counter but take the tax

Cannot call a Barmaid Love,

Calling Basil Brush Raceist

The Conker Ban

Cannot order a black coffee has to be coffee, no milk!

Chargeing for plastic bags but supplying 4 apples on a tray wrapped in clingfilm

DNA test for a bloke who droped an apple core.

to name a few

There seems to be an indusry growing out of this don't you think.

Another thing some of the stupid amounts of compensation award for stupid things, while genuine cases get peanuts.

I've met quite a few of the p.c brigade over the years and I know quite a few of them around this area, the ones round here are very good at airing their views from behind closed door's and not to one's face
I would much prefer someone who has something to say to come right out and say it rather than complain about it through local media and sign it with M.D Wigan
If I have something to say I will say it, and if I did go through the media I would sign it "Dave Halligan, Wigan"

We have created the problems ourselves. We all like to point the finger at others but lets be honest the nanny state exists because this is the attitude of our society. If we can sue, we do, and are unwilling to accept responsibility for our own shortfalls. If kids do wrong people blame the Government, police, schools. In fact anyone but look at themselves. If anyone has an accident, its "how much could i get for this". Not its nobody's fault as it was just an accident. Some people on here go on about kids not having any discipline. But be honest half of them would be up in arms or suing if someone gave one of their kids the backhander that they say people should be allowed to do when threatened by teenagers etc.
The fact of the matter is we have got the society that we created to suggest it is all the fault of some anonymous faceless body is just another cop out as usual

When I was little you had it drilled into you to respect the local bobby who everyone knew he walked his patch and they lived in Police Houses in the same area, "Always find a Policeman if you get lost" was a favourite saying of my Mum.

Same with teachers - you dared not answear back, the lack of respect shown these days is awful, discipline never did me any harm.

Oh no, Jerry - we can't have anyone lost in wigan world - it could take days to find your way out again.

The PC Brigade is The Political Correctness Brigade.

(The link gives an overview that I largely agree with though I haven't looked at the rest of the site).

I believe some 'PC Brigade' endeavours have furthered our society for the good, but some unintentionally cause more problems than they solve.

Thank you, jo anne. I'm realising that I have met the expression. Just once, when an American friend I see only rarely - a sea-going engineer - dropped in and dropped the expression.

I considered it in a literal sense and was critical of his usage, i.e. it applies only to governmental matters. Now I'm aware that re' the brigade busybodies, it is jargon. The Americans are so fond of mucking-up 'our' lovely language.

Unfortunately, they are so dominant that the trend towards American English being 'the' English is, I believe, irreversible.

I'm with you re' the nature/substance of the PC Brigade.
