More Houses ???
Started by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Wigan RL has sold the Orrell training ground so my guess is that it will be the next phase of housing.
I guess a whole host of infra structure will proceed this if that is the case.

And where will the money go that Wigan get....more overseas trips and the like.....or somehow into mr whelans account

Posted by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Whelan is not involved it is Lenegan and Wigan RL. Maybe he is looking to offset last years £600k loss.
The Council gain by off loading a loss making facility at Robin Park where the rugby is moving to.

At least no one can shout about green belt.

Posted by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Just a green pitch ,that adjacent area of 'green belt' has long since been developed

So where will the Warriors train then?

Posted by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Robin park Arena running track facility is being taken over by Wigan RL which will be their HQ training facility and all reserve,19's and 16's games will be played there.
I assume that all existing users will be accommodated somehow.

SOMEWHERE WHO CARES.NOT WRL CLUB

Posted by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Surely WMBC would have written into the lease agreement that the existing users would be able to carry on there, obviously timings etc would need to be arranged

...Give it back to Orrell RUFC!

It's their rightful home.

Posted by: roylew (2340) Report abuse
I donít think wigan need a training ground

Posted by: orrellite (2286) Report abuse
Orrell RU are having a new facility with the cricket club off Winstanley Road near to the Scout Hut.

I always thought that 'Edge Hall Road' was a silly place to have the home of at the time, one of the greatest Rugby Yoonion Clubs in the country (long time ago) there was no parking and the ground was hemmed in by houses, so forget the crap about Dave Whelan and Orrell RUFC and let them become great again in their noo home

Orrellite said, "Whelan is not involved ...."

Don't be too sure! Whelan 'took over' Orrell rugby club, but he, and others, bought the land their ground stood on outright.
In other words, the Orrell rugby club and the land it stood on are different entities.

Tonker, Dave Whelan sold WRFC to Leneghan along with Edge Hall Rd pitch and surrounds. It all belongs to Leneghan, not Whelan.
However, as I understand it, even though the rest of the former Orrell land around there has been built on, the actual bit that Lenaghan owns has a covenant on it preventing any building.
But as we all know, these covenants can be circumvented, and seeing as he is doing a deal with WMBC over Robin Park, there won't be a shortage of legal "advice" available to him from them. The council are masters at that sort of thing.

Chris Southworth - As I said above - "Orrell rugby club and the land it stood on are different entities".

The land on which Orrell Rugby Club played / trained / had parties etc., did not belong to Orrell Rugby Club.
The Edge Hall Road pitch and surrounds, although transferred from Orrell Rugby Club's use to Wigan Rugby Club's use, doesn't belong to Wigan Rugby Club.

Like the land on which Wigan Rugby Club's 'Central Park' stood on didn't belong to Wigan Rugby Club.

Like the land on which Wigan Athletic Football Club's 'Springfield Park' stood on didn't belong to Wigan Athletic Football Club.

Like the land on which Wigan Athletic and Wigan Rugby Club's stadium is now stood on doesn't belong to Wigan Athletic or Wigan Rugby Club.

The land on which Orrell Rugby Club (now Wigan Rugby Club) 'train' on was owned by Mr.Thomas Standish, of Marylebone, Wigan. On Mr.Standish's death, in 2004, the entire estate was bought by a syndicate. The names Whelan and Ainscough were amongst them.
The 'lease' on 'some' of the land was held by Ronnie Pimblett, of Wigan Lane, near the Cherry Gardens. He was chairman of Orrell Rugby Club, the one which Dave Whelan 'took over' to do Ronnie Pimblett a favour.

And that's why you shouldn't be too sure when you say "Whelan is not involved", because he most likely is.

According to the Land registry the freehold is owned by
Wigan Rugby League Football Club. The lender is shown as Barclays Bank.

You can bet 100% something will be built there, covenant or not. I am sure the new owners haven't bought it to graze sheep on it.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1682) Report abuse
They might have bought it to graze cows on there

Posted by: tonker (18945)   Report abuse
That's fair enough, I've now seen it myself, dated February 2013. It follows that it's been sold to them 'after' the scam which took place in 2004 with Mr.Standish's estate.

And thats why there were rubber traffic counters across the road near Orrell station three years ago, and thats why the area behind the stone wall adjacent to Orrell water Park was taken off the list of SSI's three or four years ago.
The decisions made by WMBC are made years before the public ever get to know about it. That's why smiffy demands total unswerving blind loyalty from his sheep.
