The best fast food of all time...
Started by: i-spy (13325)  Report abuse
it's not trendy but for me it's the undisputed number one. I give you the humble jam butty. With butter of course and preferably crusty bread.

Replace the jam with bacon and brown HP sauce.

And the bread must be crusty, and freshly cut. ie Not from a sliced loaf!

Make them both on toasted bread.

Lemon cheese butties

I remember having sugar butties, anyone else? Well it was back in the 50s, I guess we'd fallen on hard times. I always had a couple of jam butties before I went to school, I remember one lad at school saying I had jam on my face.

Take a can of baked beans. Drain off all the liquid. I often dump the beans on to paper toweling, to absorb moisture. Fry the beans, preferably in lard, until you see significant caramelizing. Serve, very hot, atop a slice of fried bread. Salt to taste.

The nectar of the gods.

not one mention of the chip butty yet you are all supposed to be northerners BAH HUMBUG!

Posted by: jathbee (8087) Report abuse
Prefer beans on toast to a chip butty. Besides it's only fast food if you buy it from a chippy 😂

Posted by: jathbee (8087) Report abuse
In tomato for me, don't like them in oil.
I like poached egg on toast too.

I have just been pondering my favourite 3.

In reverse order

3. Bacon with tomato sauce
2. Bacon with brown sauce
1. Drum roll please - Bacon with no sauce

I could be a vegetarian, but only if I had a nice fillet steak with them

6 pints of bitter in Ship Hotel on a Friday night , out for quarter to eleven .... then best fast food of all time ( or so it seemed then ! ) .... burger with loads of boiled onions and ketchup from the burger cart on Woolies corner , just done in time for last bus back to Pem .

Posted by: builderboy (1807) Report abuse
stevemul

Whilst I queued up for many a burger and onions in much the same circumstances, I now wonder what the hell we were thinking about putting crap like that in our mouths.

The '6 pints of bitter' you referred to probably had much to do with it......
