In the Labour club in Castleford before a Wigan game and they came round with dripping butties.Politely declined because it's pointless spoiling an excellent pint of bitter

My Mam, God Bless her, grew up eating dripping butties, ( yet she never weighed more than 6 1/2 stones in all her life, apart from being pregnant). People didn't have much choice in those days, when most everybody was poor you ate whatever you could afford to...
Thankfully, I never had to eat them, I loved chips fried in them, but to spread it on a piece of bread to eat, I'd have choked before it even got to my mouth..

I'm thankful I've never had to eat them too, Jouell.
Mache, I think you'll be disheartened to know dripping butties don't feature in this year's Wigan Food and Drink Festival 27th Feb - 9th Mar(link)

we used to have toast with drippin on, toasted on the fire then sprinkled with salt-for our breakfast,l think that drippin was cheaper than margarine.
