Insomnia.

Started by: james (178)

What do others do to pass the time during the night when sleep just will not come? ( Keep it clean)
I need ideas that will not disturb the rest of the household.
I know that some of you come on this site, and I may do that.
It would provide some comfort even to know others of you have the same prob.
I'm looking forward to some comical answers from some of you, as I know what you can be like.

james, you have my sympathy 101%, cos early last year i had a rough time, 2 hrs sleep and that was it, even though i was so tired, i was like a Zombie. I think 1st you must ask yourself why arnt you sleeping, if this is not the norm for you. i went to my gp and she wanted to put me on Anxiety pills, but i said No cos i was not depressed or i thought had Anxiety, a couple of weeks later i went back, and said id try Anything so i started a mild course, and have not looked backed since, was on them about 6 months, slowly weaning off them, but if i ever have the same problem, i,d be waiting for my gp,s door to open - 1st in the queue. Hope my bit helps, sorry its so long winded - Good Luck

hi james, ive not had a full nights sleep for over 17years because of chronic pain, (i hope thats not your problem) theres no substitute for sleep so dont get in the habit of roaming round or watching tv all night, thats the worst thing you could do, mild sleeping pills may help in the short term but long sessions of strong drugs will give you even more problems in my experience , it depends on your circumstances, try to go to bed relaxed and concentrate on good thoughts, good luck to you.

Hi Joseph, I am so sorry that you have chronic pain, It must be horrible for you, and anyone else who suffers from that.
This, thank goodness, is not my problem. I just can't seem to relax. Thoughts of what I could be doing keeps running through my mind.
I am recently retired from nursing, and often worked nights, so perhaps I need to establish a new routine.

Thank you all who gave hints and tips.

Nit Oil.

One learned fellow penned a poem about the stuff.

But I'm buggered if I'm trawling though the Saturday Morning Poets thread.

I think it went along the lines of:

Nit oil's good

Nit oil's great

Probably not that memorable a poem what I wrote after all.

Nit oil. by Xrh59 June 2009

Nit oil is a wonderous thing
it gives them shine and lots of spring,
my friend Dostaf uses it at least twice a day
he say's it keeps the buggers at bay,
but oft' on a winters night you can here them
on thier slay, whizzing here, and whizzing there
will there ever be peace in this mons hair.

And, inspired by Xrh59's poem, Dostaf's untitled work follows a few minutes later:

I do use nit oil here and there
and not always on my hair
you see this stuff has many uses
It's extracted from exotic juices

rub it in and rub it well
discretely so no one can tell
stops things squeaking, keeps things bright
gives a satisfactory night.

Nit oils good, nit oils good,
we all use good ole' nit oil
pineapple or apricot, we use the lot
so everynight when I'm asleep
I'm dreaming of bombing old nits,
giving them the blitz,
with a load of Wigan world nit oil.

Nit oil's fine, I use it all the time
with such a fragrance devine no need to rhyme
on comb or brush, there's no need to rush
get it on your crust, it's a wonderlust
for young and old, just be bold
splash it all over, it's even good on rover
if you have nits, then this is the dogs bits
use some today, don't keep it for display
oil them nits, and banish those ends with splits.

Even more of me again today.

bits of dogs or bits of cats
It can also work on rats

Nit oil Ned.

Nit oil Ned was restless in bed
they bit him here they bit him there
so off to the kitchen he fled
his scalp was a leet that flippin'
itchy neet, he laced his bonce with
WW nit oil and soothing it did start
no more itching, no more scratching
those pesky nits once again had had their matching.
