Is this a scam

I got an email from EON to say i have to pay my leccy bill monthly from next month. and pay by direct debit i'm ignoring it but has anyone else got this.

The last time I had something similar but about my broadband I phoned BT to check it out - it was a scam so I am always very wary indeed. Especially as a few months before I had been stung for £150. I got lucky and my bank (M&S) sorted it out and refunded the money. My problems were with cold callers on the phone. I now do not do any business over the phone and indeed I don't even answer their calls. It's interesting that each time the answerphone comes on the call ends.

every month i get this email. your direct debit as the wrong details, your virgin account will be closed if you dont let us have the correct bank details.one week later virgin debit my account.

you can usually tell if it's a scam by the email adress from which it's sent

If it's just a 'name' and not the full email adress visile just simply start to do a 'reply' and you'll see it appear in the 'To' field.
