Bottle Tops

Does anyone here remember collecting milk bottle tops and taking them to school? Can anyone remember why we did that?

When my kids took them into school they used them in Art classes.

Thanks all. I can remember that in art and using toilet roll cardboards (which isn't allowed anymore). I thought it was a charity. Funny how things come back to you!

The Good Shepherd Fund! I remember that. I feel so old. It'd be the mosque fund now.

It reminds me of the joke of the manager of the local asylum going in to the town and telling the department store that the inmates were coming into town on a bit of therapy and whatever they bought they would pay for in bottle tops. The store wasn't to worry, just take the tops, make a note of what they spend and he would settle up with him later.
The patients went into town, bought various items and paid with bottle tops.
Later, the manager of the asylum came down and the store manager told him what had been spent. The asylum manager said "now, if you can just give me change for this dustbin lid, we'll call it quits".

Oh, who remembers dustbin lids?

I remember doing that. Also remember getting little booklets with pics of young children and we had to try get people to buy a pic and the money went to Dr Bernardo's Children's Home..
