The only people who didn't like maggie were labour voters and men with no *&^^%.

This EVERYBODY HATED THE WITCH mantra by a good few here and by the lefty media does not sit well simply by the fact she kept getting voted in for 11yrs so somebody loved her. The only reason she went was because of back stabbing colleagues not because of the majority of people.

The country was in a dire mess when she came into power. "Cometh the hour cometh the man" in this case WO MAN. A leader in every sense and coming from a self confessed sexist I find extremely hard to say.

What is it claimed she did that made some people upset?

Britain in the '70s was known worldwide as the economic sick man of Europe. In the '80s and '90s it was considered prosperous. By '93 I was thinking my ancestors had made a mistake and I should uproot the family and head back to England. In retrospect it was a good thing I didn't.

A great leader when it came to matters abroad and standing up for Britain in Europe etc. but she crippled the poor in this country and offered no re-training or hope to the plus 3.5million she threw on the scrapheap.

@veg grower

I WILL not get into a drawn out politics debate but-

"but she crippled the poor in this country and offered no re-training or hope to the plus 3.5million she threw on the scrapheap"

Is so far from the truth I just had to say RUBBISH. Latest News from one Legacy of Thatcher the Nissan plant in the North East, a EUROPEAN SUCCESS story is they have just invested another £1/4 billion in it.

The Tory's under Thatcher brought in MASSIVE investment from abroad and re generated the country which allowed Blair/Brown to go on a wild spending spree.

Posted by: stel48 (2986) Report abuse
She is a frail old lady in deteriorating health.I wish her no harm, as i do not wish anyone harm.

As for her politics and morals/ethics. I detested everything she stood for.

Through policies such as anti-union legislation, poll tax, selling council houses, privatisation of national industry and massive deconstruction of Britain's social wealth (e.g. NHS, public transport), she deliberately annihilated any area of British life that was built around community, responsibility to others, collaboration, shared destiny.

Two quotes from her sum it up:
"There's no such thing as society"
"Economics are the method; the object is to change the heart and soul."

The fragmented culture Britain suffers today (Cameron's 'broken Britain') - the anti social behaviour, the selfishness and greed, the lack of cohesion and responsibility - is a direct result of her obsession with uncontrolled competition and the way she gave it to the country. She has done Britain enormous damage, knowingly and without compassion, to support her ideal of a ruthless, dog-eat-dog world.

She also supported Pol Pot, General Pinochet and to a lesser extent the Apartheid regime of S Africa.

A truly poisonous enemy of Britain, whose damage we are still trying to repair - and will be for a long time

I think it sums it up in a nutshell. Nothing to do with her gender. Just a greedy, selfish, self serving individual

Posted by: veg grower (inactive) Report abuse
HWP - I disagree, she had the poor on their knees, I know because I was one of them - I had the (mis)fortune of attending school while she was Prime Minister. Primary School through to leaving High School, to getting a YTS placement where I was paid peanuts £27.70 the first year and £35 the following year. My father was made unemployed and could not secure another job - he never worked again.

Posted by: veg grower (inactive) Report abuse
Stel48 - that is an excellent summary IMO.

Posted by: hotwaterpastry (inactive) Report abuse
@stel48

I have never read as much left wing trash propaganda in my life.

People like you live in a left wing cocoon surrounded by left wing nonsense that THATCHER was HATED and this is what you infect the minds of kids at university and schools with prolonging that garbage.

This is a REAL fact

Thatcher was that hated the country kept voting her in for 11yrs. She only left office because of her back stabbing colleagues.

The only people who didn't support her where the Marxists/Communists running the Labour party and Unions at the time who's B*lls she chopped off and the Labour voting sheep that followed them

Posted by: kryten (inactive) Report abuse
Perhaps brian could start a politics board for this kind of debate. I may suggest it to him.

Posted by: hotwaterpastry (inactive) Report abuse
@ veg grower

The upheaval in society was caused by the unions WHO WERE THE PEOPLE THAT BROUGHT THE COUNTRY TO ITS KNEES or have you conveniently forgotten the 3 day weeks, power cuts, destruction of the car industry by the likes of Red Ken etc?

There was indeed a SHORT term problem for the country and people but this soon passed and quoting you only getting £27.70 for YTS is misleading as that was THEN and not NOW. In fact UB is only £71 today

Posted by: stel48 (2986) Report abuse
HWP before you insult people you first have to know if your facts are accurate, which they are not. I do not hold the opinion that if anyone disagrees with me they are wrong. I can see why you have an affinity with the woman.

Posted by: veg grower (inactive) Report abuse
HWP - you are entitled to your opinion of course, as is everyone else, and I am more than happy to read it - one person's fact however, is another person's fiction.

As for the current amount of Job Seeker's Allowance - the £71 per week is given when someone cannot secure employment (they aren't working for that amount - in fact it would work out far less than the minimum wage) when I was working as YTS (instead of claiming Unemplyment Benefit) as I said, I started out on £27.50 per week - doing 40+ hours per week - a huge difference in circumstances.

Posted by: hotwaterpastry (inactive) Report abuse
and my Dad used to say you wont find sense where there is none.

I'm not nasty at all, the real nastyness is someone like you assassinating the likes of Margaret Thatcher with untruths, fabrications and the twisting history.

That argument could be used with regard to Margaret Thatcher.

There is a huge difference between opinions and facts. You always start to hurl personal abuse with anyone who does not agree with your opinions.

I understand why you hold the views you do but the facts regarding the UK economy leading up to 1979 and beyond are a matter of public record.
For example I have posted on here previously the government reords, and the statistics, on the reason for the right to buy legislation which was to pay down the debts acumulated from the council house building programme. It was dressed up as the right to buy.
Similarly Barbara Castle's bill, sabotaged by Jim Callaghan, 'In Place of Strife' was the blueprint for the Tory trades union reform legislation. The title of the bill suggests that the then Labour Government was aware of the extent of the problems in the trade unions.
A full account of the game changing moment for the UK economy, the 1976 Sterling slide and the IMF crisis, is well documented by two eminent Americans in the book 'Goodbye Great Britain'. It notes the sale of council houses as being one of the terms of the IMF settlement.
You can borrow it with pleasure.

Getting back to Peawapp's post.
No democratically elected UK prime minister should be subjected to such vile comment. It brings WW into disrepute.

I like chewy Turkey, so ner!

That remark has nothing to do with Thatchers neck by the way. It was for the benefit of Owd Father Time, Mac.

HWP, leave it, there are a few posters on here who are a disgrace to WW and to the town that spawned them. If their mothers', or grandmothers ever find themselves in a similar situation as Mrs T, well. Merry Christmas

UTT,
I don't and never have considered anyone superior to me. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013. One day we shall meet up and the last one standing buys the last round.
Take care.

No,what I do however is show respect to people who's position warrants it which is something you dont.
