Lone travellers are advised to sit behind the driver in a taxi.

Bad enugh with the cowboy 'taxis' taking money off folk, without this sort of thing.

Saw an item a while back, possibly Liverpool Trading Standards, about the unlicensed, therefore uninsured vehicles.

Accompanied by the usual warnings, particularly to women, about only using bona fide taxis.

Private hire, not taxi.

Safer option. Pre booked etc.

But not the first thing that comes to mind when some folk are just bothered about getting home after leaving nightclubs.

Big Taxi sign on top, name of company on side, taxi plate on back. ID of driver inside along with a taxi meter.How can any sane person make that mistake.

lone women are not safe in some of them!

I know it's easy to say,but you only need to look at the cars number plate, don't bother about tall, thin fat, just NUMBER PLATE.

Twice I have chased bogus taxis in Wigan.

Bet they still didn't let you in!

Bet he didn't catch them even when they parked up.

I only use the taxis that you have to telephone for as they call you back on your mobile with the colour and make of car and the index number. Feel much safer then and as I usually travel alone I always sit in the back of the cab.

Sadly, rational thought tends to vacate the premises when drunk.

On 28 October 2012, a 57-year-old man was arrested on Warrington Lane, Lower Ince, on suspicion of sexual assault, after a genuine taxi driver apprehended him.

Earlier in the night the genuine taxi driver had been approached by a young woman aware of the police appeal - she'd told of how the Nissan had attempted to pick up one of her friends but left before the taxi driver could take her details.

When the man was arrested a young woman was inside the Nissan, but she left before the police arrived.

Police spokesperson: "We now desperately need to speak to these two women as they could hold crucial information that will help us put the offender of this appalling sexual attack behind bars.

"I would therefore appeal to these two women to get in touch with police immediately. I want to emphasise that these women have done nothing whatsoever and that we simply want to speak to them about what they know.

"I would also continue to ask anyone who has information about either the original sexual assault, or the whereabouts of the silver Nissan X Trail vehicle over the last two weeks, to call us."
