The Pemberton Loop Line: The Remains...

Started by: jarvo (30250)

Just been for a walk along the remains of what once was the famous Pemberton Loop Line...

It ran from Hindley Junction to Pemberton Junction at Little Lane.

The line closed in 1969.

There are still high embankments along the Scotsmans's Flash section, but the two bridges over the main roads are well gone.

It was once a busy by-pass of Wigan Wallgate and many football and Grand National specials went over the metals...

It is still a nice walk and the views of the Flash are nice in sunny weather...

I love railways...Always have done...Loads of industrial history

happy days when steam was king of the road, when they where closeing wigan shed, i transfered to bletchley in bucks, but it wasnt long before they brought in diesel and then electric, that was the time for me to get out. the thing about steam was that you could always get to your destination as long as you didnt drop the plugs, or you hadnt come of the rails, there was nothing that could compare with traveling through the night with a full head of steam at 60 m.p.h.

I have great memories as a little boy going up to Scotland by steam train, crossing the Forth rail bridge and throwing pennies out of the carriage window for good luck as you crossed the bridge.
Alway had a great affection for live steam.
