They've abandoned it once. And they'll do it again.

What a waste.

I am normally of that opinion with anything to do with the Pier Complex, its all hot air and nothing ever comes of it, but I noticed today that there are workmen in The Orwell and there are notices up on all of the buildings, proclaiming the project, but me skeptical nature, tells me that they are just clearing it out of the crap in there and in a short period of time the signs will come down and the workmen will bugger off, and the council will say that they are still looking for a mug to pay for the project

Jarvo even if the buildings are only used for a few years is this not better than them being empty and falling into greater disrepair. This has been the trouble with Wigan too many old buildings have been left to rot or pulled down and replaced with buildings which are past their sell by date after less than 50 years

I agree Peter.. Too many lovely old buildings demolished to make way for rubbish.. The Pier is a piece of Wigan History and should taken care of, not torn down..

Let's hope they get it right

Look what they're doing up at St James's in Orrell.

This M58 link road folly will come to an abrupt end when they find out that the juggernauts cannot negotiate the Bottom of Enfield Street proposed roundabout...

Pure madness.

What roundabout?

This is what the proposed junction at Enfield Street will look like

Saying that though Wigan Council have removed all the promotional material from the Council website about the M58 link project, apart from a small detail map, with there now just being an announcement that funding is being sought for the project, but a couple of years ago they said that it was definitely 'on' and that the Highways Agency was going to be chipping is some money for it and the Highways Agency would have been overseeing the thing being built, so what happened to all that then?

Traffic lights?

OMG...No change there then?

I still believe that the project will go ahead and look forward to watching the construction works being carried out.
The contract has just started to construct a brand new Orrell St. James's first team sports pitch. This enabling contract will ensure that the pitch has 12 months to develop the necessary root structure to withstand the wear and tear it will be subjected to. I cannot see why they would go to such considerable expense if they don't intend building the road.

I don't think that it is going to be built

The road will solve nothing. Looking at that plan, the potential traffic at Highfield could be horrendous.

A simple solution: widen the top of Enfield Street and stop the rat runners coming through the estate. There is room for an extra lane to turn left to Pemberton.
