In case anyone missed the announcement.

Lets hope this gets a few more people using the town centre

A bit late, the damage has already been done, who want to come and look at empty shop fronts in a dying town centre

Posted by: mindar (764) Report abuse
It's up to people to support the town centre shops. You've been given an opportunity use it.

Posted by: mindar (764) Report abuse
It may take time for things to improve. Never say die

There is nothing in the town centre that will attract me, I don't frequent charity shops

Posted by: mindar (764) Report abuse
Well you should there's some real bargains to be had, and you will helping a good cause. I got a lovely print of Wigan and a book called Sixpenny Rush only a few days ago for the grand sum of £5.

Agree, zz, there's nothing to get me to go into town

Posted by: Zanzibar Spangles (3350) Report abuse
I suppose Wigan town centre charity shops are ok for the hard up but there isn't much choice if you want to buy a domestic appliances like a washing machine or a computer

Ah! Have you spotted a gap in the market?

Posted by: ann-spam (3260)  Report abuse
Oh somebody has seen sense at last is it a little to late .

Posted by: baker boy (13989) Report abuse
yes ann spam
but its not exactly stunningly clever.
WMBC loses its car park revenue for three months ,its a few bob ok.
the other part of the equation is wigan empties full stop and its parking charges are lost forever.
its a situation that as been forced on them by greed and/or necessity.
town centre landlords milking the high street dry and WMBC MILKING ITS MOTORING POPULACE DRY.
A DAYS PARKING CHARGE IN WIGAN SEVEN OR EIGHT POUNDS ,WHICH IS ABOUT THE FUEL BILL FOR A TRIP TO THE TRAFFORD CENTRE.QED

Would rather go to Bury or bowton.

Wigan is a town amongst several other towns. There aren't really enough potential customers close enough to Wigan to make it a commercially viable shopping town.
What's finished off the town centres of yesteryear is the opening of the 'out of town' shopping parks along with peoples preferences!

Posted by: baker boy (13989) Report abuse
wigan is a town amongst several hundred.park for nothing at asda or robin park retail shop for several hours no charges, and if your late back to your car, no little yellow envelope from WMBC,S good will ambassador,s.
ask a council employee to watch the procession of walkers using Tesco,s car park, where on earth are they going.
their avoiding the yellow peril and poor car parking costs.

Free parking?

So everyone is suddenly going to stop using amazon/ebay, online banking, supermarket home deliveries etc and start driving into the town centre and traipsing around?......as if

A friend of mine recently bought a house without even stepping into an estate agents office, a solicitors office or a building society branch!

The decline of town centres across the country is nothing to do with car parking or the costs involved. It's down to the convenience the internet offers consumers and savvy businesses taking advantage of the fact.

Amazon are set to be the biggest retailer and the most valuable company in the world in a few years, how many high street shops do they have?........say no more eh?

"say no more eh"

Posted by: basil brush (10159) Report abuse
So what's that got to do with shopping in Wigan?

Posted by: Stardelta (6331) Report abuse
Nothing, it's just another one of his taunts.

Baker Boy

At Robin Park the "little yellow envelope" will be generated from the on-site cameras and will arrive in the post 7-10 days later.

Make sure that you read the parking terms and conditions when you park up as you are not always allowed several hours especially when there are events on at any of the stadiums.

I'd have thought that Amazon and these on line shopping sites has everything to do with the decline of Town centres including Wigan.

Agree mindar,it doesn't take much working out

Posted by: basil brush (10159) Report abuse
So it's nothing to do with the fact that there's no market and shops have been shutting down for ages or no atmosphere

Exactly Mindar, especially the ones like Amazon that don't pay all their taxes.

How can local shops compete with them.

Doesn't take a genius to work it out does it?
