Hi,I,m reading a book about Wigan 1940 on,does anyone know of an address mayflower rd, its at the end of Miry Lane off Wallgate,near Prescott st, I lived at the top of prescott st ,but I cant recall it

I lived in Prescott Street and I've never heard of Mayflower Road.Right at the end of Miry Lane was a little street named Horsefield Street if I remember rightly.

I knew of a family by the name of Hollinshead who lived at the bottom of Prescott Street/Miry Lane and I think they had something to do with haulage or something similar.

Hi xenon,depending on your age? do you remember a Mary and Billy Rowe
in the middle of the bottom end of Prescott St..he had a motor bike with a
side car...they were my Aunty and Uncle.

I know teddy dakin used to work with him he will be in his eighties now still fit does plenty walking, i will ask him.I know he was born in wallgate and has wrote a few books about wigan he also used to write in PAST FORWARD magazine

Hi momac,I'm sorry I don't remember anyone with that name although I too lived in that part of Prescott Street and I am certain I would have remembered someone with a motorbike and sidecar!

I think the road in Kitt Green is Mayfield, not Mayflower.

Hi Roy,I remember the chippy and the name Gordon Richards rings a bell in the back of my mind,would he be a member of the family you mentioned?

Oh right-I knew I'd heard the name somewhere!I can remember most of the people who lived near the chip shop,what decade did your wifes' family live there Roy?Are you any relation to the Fisher family who lived opposite the chip shop?

hard,my wife,s grandmother was Mrs Naylor,they lived there in the 1940,s

I knew Richard and all the Fisher family quite well,the 1940,s are a bit before my time.

I can recall the name Snape Street but I can't remember where it was,I tried Google Earth but had no luck.Can you tell me ? Just had a thought-maybe this should be on "Places".
