Time for another airing.

Who was he?

What made him tick?

And why was he wearing cloggs in a brick works?

Red Clogs a Coalminer's Ghost

Like Jinny Greenteeth, he was a person made up to scare children, and, secretly, as with ghosts and witches, we all WANTED to believe in him! I actually have a pair of red clogs next to my fireplace, but they are my daughter's, not Red Clogs's!

"Jinny Greenteeth", Irene? Now that's not proper Wigan talk!
You must be a 'plastic' Wiganer, talking laaaaike that!

Jenny or Jinny Greenteeth it was or still is, only in certain parts (or folks such as faux wiganers from haydock)was it corrupted to Nanny.

Legend of Jenny Greenteeth

Tonker how do you get Wiganers saying laaaaike, the only place I've heard like spoken laaaaike is Burnage.

Mike Harding refers to Jinny Greenteeth in his foreword to the book The Waterfalls of England.

...In Wiggin, it's Nanny Greenteeth.

Anyone reading this thread could well imagine that; with the discussion, real entities are being written about.

Strange how it has evolved from 'red clogs' to 'green algae'.
