There are several Winstanley Warriors teams in that age bracket. To which do you refer?
And what is your obvious issue with that club?
It's kids enjoying grass roots football for gods sake!

What do you think "under 12's" are?
Didn't you mention Winstanley Warriors under 12's in your opening post?

It seems that my question.
" Are they being sponsored by Wigan Council"
Has touch a nerve lisalee.
It is only a question,
Replied: 23rd Sep 2016 at 19:01
It's not touched a nerve with me. I couldn't care less who sponsors them.
My issue is that it's a kids grass roots football club that you have a pop at at every opportunity over one thing or another.

Seriously, you are quite right to be concerned over the common land being sold by the council, and IU siuspect a councillor has his grubby hands in this particular pot. BUt you really ought to submit an FOI to the council as suggested earlier.
Replied: 23rd Sep 2016 at 19:08
Fingers I have and I am still waiting for a answer.
That land was given to Wigan for all the Wigan people not a selected few.
Have a look at the plaque.
Replied: 23rd Sep 2016 at 19:16
I know it was, I used to play football there, but I can't tell you why the fence was erected nor can I tell you why the land was given/sold to Winstanley warriors. I look forward to the FOI responce you get, and that should take around 20 working days.
Please post any response you get.

The fence was erected because there had been numerous complaints about dog walkers fouling the pitch.
Replied: 23rd Sep 2016 at 19:23
Thanks, Dodger. A good reason if therer ever was one.
Replied: 23rd Sep 2016 at 19:24
I neither know nor care who paid for the fence.
I just remember reading complaints about the dog fouling in the WEP some time ago.

This was the reply gemfree.
I am still waiting.

Quite a few local kids' football teams from various clubs have the 'Supported by Wigan Council' logo on their kits.
What it usually means is that one of their local ward councillors has allocated some 'Brighter Borough' funds to provide kits, footballs and other equipment, which teams find very helpful. Amounts involved are usually around £250 to £500 per grant.
It has got nothing to do with the lease of Little Lane to Winstanley Warriors, which is another situation altogether, and one which I personally don't agree with on principle. Public open spaces such as football pitches should not be hived off to a select and limited group for their exclusive use. If they are, I believe it is a legal requirement that the pitches are still accessible for 'lads and dads' type kickabouts, although not for organised matches and training.

There is a councillor who is the football club chairman's Dad.
Replied: 27th Sep 2016 at 08:35
There are quite a few 'leased' pitches in the borough. No other one has been fenced off as far as I know.

Have a look at the plaque on the big Stone at the entrance.
It tells you who donated it to the people of Wigan.
The changing rooms were built with rate payers money.
So why are only the chosen few allowed to use them?
Replied: 27th Sep 2016 at 17:15
Because a councillor is the Winstanley Warriors football club chairman's Father.

Fireplace,
Although we tend to disagree a lot I admire your tenacity on this issue. Council's should not be allowed to break old covenants especially if there is more than a hint of nepotism. I look forward to reading what I hope is a satisfactory conclusion to your crusade.
Replied: 27th Sep 2016 at 18:47
Thank you broady.
It is wrong what has happened.
About 10 different clubs used to use this ground.
Now I think only two clubs use it.

A level of arrogance that only WMBC or someone closely allied to them could generate. Especially from some UNELECTED nobody.

Tom asked if Highfield or Hawkley still used the pitches up until recently, fireplace? He says both clubs used them when he played.
Replied: 27th Sep 2016 at 22:42
lapis, I believe the Highfield open-age club closed a few years ago. Highfield Grange, adults and juniors, is still going strong but I don't think any of their teams use Little Lane. Hawkley ditto.
Both of these clubs did use Little Lane for men's and junior matches in the past, along with many others: Worsley Mesnes, Goose Green, St Jude's,Highfield etc.
When the new lease was signed it was for Little Lane to be used only by Winstanley Warriors and Winstanley St Aidan's, although I seem to recall that another club might have joined them later.

Over to you gemfree
The Brighter Borough initiative provides a fund for councillors to propose and support schemes that improve the environment and benefit the community within their Wards. Winstanley Warriors have applied and successfully received a total of £5,410.95 via the Brighter Borough scheme.
In addition, when planning permission is granted for new housing, a legal agreement is made (a section 106 agreement) for a financial contribution to be paid by the applicant to support the provision of new or improved play space and open space. Play space contributions can be spent on both formal and informal play as well as sport provision
Winstanley Warriors received £50,429.50 of Section 106 funds, to allow them to access match funding for significant pitch improvements. This funding enabled the club to access £65,000 from Sports England.
Why does only one team benefit?
