I would't worry too much, things evolve as they grow and some things change, some for the better and some for the worse, Very often things revert back, As walter used to say " onwards and upwards" bless him,

I remember going to the Royal Oak with Julie and meeting Rose and Jimmy, Alan, Christine, Ann and others.

It was a nice time.

Funny thing was: only the nice 'real' posters turned up, and the anonymous didn't. They stayed as they still are today: Anonymous...

Odd, in it?

The thing is jarvo you never knew if only genuine people had turned up, at least genuine people introduced themselves and proceeded to have a good time, first one I ever went to was at the White Lion in Pem then the Royal Oak then I missed the Bowling Green but then went to the Bellingham one with our Aussie friends, I made some good lasting friendships from those meets, pity I can't do it any more but hello to you all my friends even those who don't want to get involved again

Morning aitch, not everyone is able to make it to the get togethers though. there are many posters who simply live too far away to make it. I haven't managed to get home for more than 10 years to see my family, though it's not for want of trying, and I only live 250 miles away, not in another country!

There are posters here who I believe are genuine and consider to be friends, even though we have never met. Though I would love to.

There is undoubtedly an element of suspicion towards new members, from some as though this web site is a personal playground. Posters are regularly accused of being ex-members, rather than accepted for who they are, and what they contribute.

There was a big change here when dostaf "left". Sad loss to the site in my opinion, but there are still some excellent posters here.

It's nice to be nice, but thats a two way street.

Why Sir Bob, although it seems as if you are back and Jazzy I understand where you are coming from but I think you are thinking outside the box as it where, the meetups were never to be a replacement for the good bantr we had on heŕe, I uploaded lots of photographs of old Wigan which went down a great and got people like yourself who were far away into a nostagic mood, I also started a thread based on jokes which did well a and then my top 20 list from the 50s onwards it all ent to keep light hearted banter going and then a few people started adding snide innuendos and then some good people started to lose interest myself included I can be insulted at home I didn't need to come on heŕe for that, and before anyone starts to criticise either my spelling or grammar I must apologise as I am waiting to have my cataracts replaced

aitch, I agree the meet ups should not be replacement for the banter I was only making the point that people who don't turn up for the meet ups many have logistical reasons for doing so. But it's always nice to put a face to a name isn't it?

The photos are fantastic, a great reminder of things forgotten and things perhaps never seen. I have a great one of myself and the Govenor on the beautiful stairs at Ince Public Hall, which is where we had our wedding reception. I must try to fathom out how to upload it on picture a day. It's worth it for the staircase, which I have been unable to find another pic of, not to sure about the couple on it!!!

I really enjoyed your joke thread, some great posts on there, more please when you have the time, and feel up to it. Love the oldies also, the 60s was my hey day.

Your spelling and grammar look perfect to me

All the very best with your health and cataract op.

Take care now.

There are lots of friendly threads here aitch, though if you post an opinion on the EU or immigrants/migrants/refugees you will need your tin hat.

Fossil, yes he remembers you he says you lived near St Williams Church in the red brick houses.

He says you and your brothers were keen cricketers and did a lot of work for SVCC?

Without giving away your name, are you the youngest, oldest or middle one?did you play rugby? Barry knows your surname, but I won't put it on here.

Barry says you also know Billy Varty, who also lived in that area?

Lily died some years ago, Bert died 2 years ago, got to 93 so had a good innings.

Fossil, he thought it would be you.

He is fine, but you probably know he was very seriously ill in his mid 20's. He's doing well. He wants to know how you and your brothers are doing?

We lived in Essex for 25 years, and now we live in Suffolk, so it's quite a trek to get home. I lost my parents quite a while ago, though I still have family in Wigan, I haven't been home for more than 10 years. Barry was home quite regularly to keep an eye on Bert, but he refused to move down here so it was quite difficult.

We had hoped to move back to Wigan when we retired, but our elder daughter has very complicated health problems, and has regular treatment at Ipswich and Papworth hospitals, and we just couldn't face the upheaval of her being under new hospitals. Plus our younger daughter lives in Suffolk now.

Which is why you haven't seen him for a long time

Momac, I was born in Spring View, and if your from that area, you would know at least one of my family I think, probably more.

I moved to Bickershaw when I was about 4. Lived on Bickershaw Lane.

Before I was married, lived in Bradford Yorkshire and Swindon Wiltshire, where I was working.

Back to Bickershaw 1971, married 1972.

Lived in Ward Street Hindley for a couple of years when we were first married

Ha ha, your probably right Momac I did live in 3 different houses while I was in Essex, can't let myself stagnate you know oh I missed out I worked a summer season in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight!

I went to school in Thomas Street Hindley Green, (golden bears territory) it was then partly Hindley County Secondary, then Wigan Tec, 1965-1968 or thereabouts and from 1971 -1973 I was the Max Factor Consultant in Pendlebury's. I could have served you?

I can't think of anywhere else our paths might have crossed! But you have to be quick to keep up with me.

Our extension starts w/c 23 May, and I'm still looking at "new" houses.

Reading all this, it sounds like I'm either an escaped convict or I owe someone a lot of money

Broady, I'm sure we must know you, we both remember Geraldine and family very well! And you did live just across the road.

I keep meaning to ask, do you remember Houghtons off licence in Abram? The one near the junior school, not the one past the Buck?

My sister is married to the son of Muriel and Bill who had the off licence. Ring any bells?

Memories aitch, getting harder to remember these days

Jazzy,
We lived in Brown Street when I was born. My Grandparents lived at 500 Bickershaw Lane ( just in front of Forresters Close) We moved to Abram around 1954 and lived at 446 Warrington Road. I did use Bill and Muriel's shop on Warrington Road. I used to call in for a video on Saturday tea time. Chuck Norris was all the rage then. My Grandparents went to Beacon Road when their house was demolished. My Nanna's brother was Charlie Job (619)

Bill, you were leaving Biccy just about the time I was moving there. I remember Charlie and his family very well. Their youngest daughter was around my age, and they lived across the road from us.

My sister is married to Muriel and Bills son, also called Bill. When they were first married, they lived at the shop, I was 15/16 at the time, and occasionally helped out in the shop because it was always crazy in there!

I misspent a few years at Abram Youth Club, further up Warrington Road, I think it's a health centre now. or it was last time I went past which is a long time ago.

I find it hard to remember people because I spent so much time working away from Wigan, I didn't run into people socially, or about town. Or maybe it's just old age.

The Govenor has a much better memory of his younger years than I do.

I used to go to the Youth Club around 1963. That was the Old Labour Club. A guy called Alan Smith used to run the Youth Club in those days. Making me feel old now.

Nana, I remember the tin chapel, but without you mentioning your hubbys address, I wouldn't have been able to place it.

There was another Houghtons off licence around Kingdown road, I think. Ken Houghton was the cousin (again I think) of my sisters father in law Bill Houghton.

It's old age, it's official, I'm losing my little grey cells

I remember going to the Royal Oak with Julie and meeting Rose and Jimmy, Alan, Christine, Ann and others.

It was a nice time.

Funny thing was: only the nice 'real' posters turned up, and the anonymous didn't. They stayed as they still are today: Anonymous...

Odd, in it?

It seems a bit funny to me that a thread titled memories should in 2 days garner over 100 replies and acknowledgments, I had a look through a few back posts and none of anything similar has gathered so many replies and as regards photos of the meetups I have quite a few but I don't know how to upload them, to Facebook Twitter and all the other media sites it's easy but on heŕe I'm scratching my head so unless someone can help they will stay in my folder

aitch, you've revived quite a few memories, and a lot of posters are obviously happy that you've returned. so you've got a lot of posts on your thread

If you've got pics I'm sure everyone would love to see them. especially the posters who were sadly unable to attend.

I do know how to post pics, but I'm definitely not the best person to explain it. Lapis kindly explained it to myself and another poster (think it might have been momac) and now I have a shortcut saved. It surely isn't easy to post a photo on here!

I remember Brian saying on the new site it would be easier to upload photos, hopefully the new site will be ready soon.

Where are you Lapis, expert advice needed here !

Aitch, I will try to explain how I do it! I hope I don't muddle you up.

I use Imgur, as recommended by lapis, which you will need to download.

Hit the X in top right hand corner and then you will see you can upload from your device

Hit the green + and then I select photo library

Pick your pic, you'll see a tick against it, click done and you will then see an upload command in blue

Hit the upload command and you'll see your pic

At top left you will see Link and a green arrow, hit the green arrow and select direct link

The URL which starts http: will now be a jpg format

Ok, now type

[img="

Next copy and paste the direct link which will be http: something. jpg

Then type

"width=500][/img]

500 is the size you will finish up with.

That's all there is to it!!!

HTH, but I suspect it won't!

Lapis explained it better.

Aitch, very cute those little lads.

I've thought of a couple of things that might be why the pic isn't showing on your profile.

At the bottom of the page there's a thing that says "click here when finished. So if you can see on your profile the pic, and you've not clicked, you need to do that.

And then there's a message to say Newly uploaded images do not appear straight away, please allow a few hours, so if you clicked as above, it's just a matter of waiting.

Looking forward to seeing the pic

HTH.

Hi Golden Bear, I remembered you lived in Thomas Street

I didn't go to the infants/junior school there, I went to the one in Bickershaw, but as there was no senior school there, we were bussed from Bickershaw to Hindley.

I started there in September 1962, but my sister, like Margaret left in the summer of 1962. So Margaret may have known her.

I'll email you her name rather than post it here.
