Water

Started by: linma (2918)

All my life I have drunk water straight from the tap and will continue to do so today, although I will boil it first. (I am in one of the affected areas). Can't understand why people are panic buying bottled water, by the trolley load in Tesco this morning, are they having a bath in the stuff. And I had to smile when the advice given from United Utilies is to make sure you let the water, after you have boiled it, cool so that you don't get burned. Are there people out there stuped enough to drink boiling water!!!!!!

There are people smart enough (other descriptions come to mind) to sue if not warned.

I too have always drunk tap water. It makes me wonder how pure natural water is if it is only allowed to be filtered. I know there are certain tests before human consumption.... but still I question.

Linma,
The strangest thing is when it says on the label " this has taken 15000 years to produce" and then gives you a use by date six months ahead.

Our drinking water is the best in the world, there's no where else you can drink out of the tap and know it's safe, because its tested all the time, they are telling now to boil the water as a precaution, there's no need to go panicking at the supermarkets, the water in those bottles comes from the same place,

I can't understand why people buy bottled water from the supermarket, like Tom say, it comes from the same place.

We sometimes drink from tap if we are having tea. We usually use our brita pitcher to purify our water. In cali they have problems with drought so to conserv water they used black plastic balls to collect water

The black balls are primarily to stop evaporation. They also stop the sun hitting the water and causing algae to grow and lastly they stop birds doing their business in the water.

well I know of places where if the town water bag breaks they have to boil their water. It seems like when there is much rain

It's day seventeen and we are still boiling water. I think today we are over cautious. Me, I was a disgusting child who, before putting her dummy in her mouth used to either rub it my hair or on the floor. I used to eat coal and I LOVED raw sausages and bacon. (Told you I was disgusting) but I never seemed to be ill.

According to this link the parasites aren't killed by the chorine they add to the drinking water, United Utilities must do plenty of water testing to have found the parasites as quickly as they did.

prior to the early nineties when we were building the new filtration units Crypto was present in the water in many areas , and there were outbreaks of S&D as a result, many communities became immune as today many sheep farmers and their families are.

PS water is always passed by the management

Orrellite, I was in Bolton in the first couple of days of this scare and the bloke, of the house I was in, worked for United Utilities. He'd been doing 16 hour night shifts, digging up and replacing leaky valves which were under cattle fields in the Fylde area.
His wife said that his clothes stunk when he came home as he was digging and working in cow-piss sodden earth.

This tends to show that they knew what was causing it straight away.

tonker,
it does not surprise me in the least.
The general condition of the assets has to be seen to be believed.
Whilst a tremendous amount of money has been spent, our's , many more millions are needed to bring it up to modern standards.

Here in New Zealand, bottled water is more expensive than petrol and milk.
I can't understand why people buy it, I drink water from the tap - it hasn't killed me - yet 😉

The small things we take for granted such as turning on a tap and being able to drink clean water. Telephone call tonight from United Utilities and I no longer need to boil my water before drinking.

www.wigantoday.net (3/9/15):

Householders will get between £50 and £60 compensation for the water scare.

The compensation bill will cost United Utilities between £15m and £18m just for households.

Where up north in canada, they haven;t had clean drinking water in over 100 years. Pretty sad to think that others don;t care about those who have nothing.
