Looking on WW, Elizabeth, the building became Wigan Casino, and then part of the Grand Arcade has since been built on its site.

From a thread on WW Forum - Wigan Casino or not (2010):

Cadfael wrote:
Am I remembering things right here... there was also a bar attached to the ballrooms that was open to the passing public?

Art wrote:
The complete building from Station Rd to Millgate, had a few levels. bordered on the right by the "Ship Yard"

A snack bar & snooker hall, beneath the Ballroom floor & a restaurant with "Green or Garden" in its name to the right of the ballroom door.
Through the Emp door you had to climb a few steps to the ballroom.
The balcony which encircled the ballroom (apart from the stage), had a door to the left of the stage, which after going up a couple of steps,
opened up into the Palais de Dance, which at the other end had an entrance/exit to Millgate
.

It all seems wonderful, Elizabeth. From WW Album - Empress Ballroom:

Brilliant shot.. I was there in the late fifties, absolutely loved the place.. every night except Wednesday.. went to very ball there was Police, Electricians, Plumbers, Engineers.. you name it I was there.. After we came out we would walk around King Street, all having fun just talking about the evening and who we'd danced with, then come 11 0'clock the bobby would say "come on let's be having you all go home".. and we went, can you imagine that happening today.. I honestly think we lived in the best era.. that's only my opinion but it's there.. thanks Ron for bringing the memories back.

My teen's idea of having a ball is very different - going out 11pm on a Fri/Sat night to Wigan's pubs then clubs, home about 6am.

Billy Boston charity night a huge success - www.wigantoday.net (24/3/15):

More than £11,000 was raised with the total still rising, helped by a raffle and auction which included many items of iconic memorabilia from Billy’s career.
