democracry (speak your mind time) if you dare

Started by: spudmagoo (1167)

trawling wigan papers - saw the article regarding the graffiti on the wigan borough council signboard at winwick. without getting into issues about whether or not graffiti is vandalism or not could we have some thoughts on the opinions expressed.
do you think our democratically elected council is guilty of the accusations levelled at it by the phantom graffitist?

i'l tell you a true story about the dirty dealings at wigan council 9 years ago i along with many others were called to a meeting regarding future redundancy's anyway we had our meeting and was informed that there was going to be a points system to see who stayed and who went and it would take place on such a date, anyway the day after the original meeting i went to the town hall to see what redundacy package would be available should i be one of the unlucky ones and was told a list of those due to be made redundant had already been recieved so even before the meeting telling us about redundacys we had been stabbed in the back! i will never trust wigan council ever gain

I once read that anti government graffiti has been found in Roman ruins.Yes, it is all part of democracy and long may it continue. In my neck of the woods an ex politician recently said "If the news isn't good our Government always shoots the messenger".I have been shot umpteen times but keep popping up again.

ena, so any Wiganer who has a negative opinion on the Council doesn't know what they are talking about!

How condescending is that? It would be pointless in asking how you've arrived at that supposition!

How come you know what you are talking about?

Dear Ena I posted this thread because I thought it would be interesting to hear the various takes on what were serious allegations made in the graffiti. Up to your posting there were no personal attacks. Stop acting like a commisar and argue your points rationally and with due respect to the opinions of others - unless of course you are a council apologist/employee/possibly even councillor. People are not interested in "hows and whys" but in the end result.

Fact or Fiction? Just a bit of useless information for everyone

OSTRICHES BURY THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND

Fiction! Ostriches do NOT bury their heads in the sand.

This tale originates from the fact that the male ostrich will dig a large hole (up to 6 to 8 feet wide and 2-3 feet deep) in the sand for the nest / eggs. Predators cannot see the eggs across the countryside which gives the nest a bit of protection. The hen as well as the rooster takes turns setting on the eggs and because of the indention in the ground, usually just blend into the horizon. All birds turn their eggs (with their beak) several times a day during the incubation period. From a distance it appears as though the bird has his/her head in the sand.

An ostrich's first response to fear is to run. Not only do they not stay to protect the eggs, they attempt to detract a predator to follow them. Due to the fact that they can run sustained speeds of about forty miles per hour, most predators are quickly lost and the eggs are safe
