Old Wigan from above

Started by: Mac (inactive)

Took a rare look at the forum earlier and saw this brilliant link by Mick.
Hope you don't mind me putting it on here, Mick.

Old Wigan from above

Cyril posts this info, 'Very interesting photos those Mick, the one of the Market Square shows the quarry on what was the Mesnes Field, I had read somewhere that it was a quarry and was later filled in with the towns refuse.

Also interesting to see is the lake on the opposite side just behind where the college is now as there are springs gushing up water on the site where the welfare and community centre was, it will be all about there, I was once told that they also had to culvert springs when the new college sports hall was being built, this is now the Wheel Restaurant which is nearby these springs.'

Again, hope you don't mind me c&P'ing your post, Cyril.

What's the point of saying 'Old Wigan from above', when 1/3 of the photos shown aren't of Wigan?

No. But out of 9 photos of Wigan, numbers 7, 8 and 9 are of Deane, in Bolton.

From the same site, HAYDOCK gets 12 out of 12!

Is Roy Darbyshire the St Helens (Or surrounding areas) version of Mr. Grimsdale?
Tonker does like to shout for him a lot.
