For members who like steam locomotives

Some good photographs here.

The era when they were still keeping them clean, prior to the neglect brought about as they were being run down.

Aw, I loved the old chuffer trains. Preferred the look of those with the round front boiler rather than the bullet shaped trains.

Such marvellous beasts of the track. My brother and I used to love going onto the iron bridge just off King Street to watch them come through on their way to Southport, and would giggle when the chimney blew white smoke up, making us choke.

GB, the title says "steam locomotives", not "trains".
There's a difference.

And cars are all different, but they are the same too.

Kind of thing!

My hubby used to be a fireman at the Prescott Street branch..he would always argue that it was wrong to call them trains, he would say they're engines, but I would say and still stick to it that you catch a train not catch an engine..who was correct.?

My friend will not even let me call them engines: insists that I say locomotive.

An engine pulls a train of carriages. It's also a Locomotive.

TONKER... your comment...
"Pardon me, boy, is that the Worsley Mesnes choo-choo?"
Can I add a little offering???
A chap gets on the Amtrack train heading south to New Orleans with a pair of new shoes that he has just bought. After dozing off he suddenly awakes to find a cat has pulled them out of the box and is ripping the shoes apart. The cat then scampers away. The chap is furious and reports it to the guard. The guard then patrols the carriages until he finds a guy with a cat sitting on his lap, to which he asks... "Pardon me boy, is the the cat that chewed the new shoes!"
