Eggs-cuse me
But does anybody know why large eggs are so small these days.
Medium are plentiful but look the same size while actual small seem to have vanished.
Is there a new egg man doing the measuring.

I’ve asked a hen and they said it could be a relative measure, I-Spy.

The British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) was set up in 1986 to be the authoritative organisation of the British egg industry. BEIC is recognised by Government and Parliament as the representative voice of the UK egg industry.

Unless you're purchasing your eggs from a very small, local producer, you'll probably notice a small lion stamped on each of your eggs. The British Lion food safety mark appears on around 90% of UK eggs, meaning they have been produced within the lion scheme and abide by a set code of conduct.
How a Lion Saved the UK Egg Industry
www.thepoultrysite.com:
The Lion had been a popular and well recognised mark since the 1960s but the 1998 re-launch included one significant change: all Lion eggs were laid by hens that had been vaccinated against salmonella.

Something to look forward to!
Farmers aim to end Britain’s obsession with large eggs (Oct’18):
The British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) is launching a campaign to show consumers that hens naturally lay a range of sizes …
… and a change in buying habits would be better for hens and farmers.
“… buying medium or mixed weight boxes of eggs which contain medium and large eggs supports what hens lay naturally.”

Years ago I had a fruit/veg shop in Croston and bought eggs from a local supplier and on a few occasions had eggs with three yolks. Nowadays a friend has her own free range chucks, they’re only bantams, but there superb eggs.

I used to live in Croston, there was a fruit and veg shop down Station Road called the veg patch, I think it was run by Bob Potter.
I get my eggs from John Leighs, they have just gone up to two pound a tray for 30 eggs still a bargain though.

Very large size eggs appear to have disappeared from supermarket shelves now.
My local Asda stopped selling them a month or two back.
Tesco, on last two visits had shelf space labelled for them, but zero stock.

Even Duck eggs seem smaller and at one time the shell was that thick it was easier to crack if you tapped it all round and pierced part of the shell with a knife. Now you can break them open by just tapping the egg on the side of the frying pan

maybe it,s the size of the chicken it,s coming out of .

Went to my usual stall in Preston market yesterday, no medium bought large. £1.90 for 6. Beautiful eggs and always have been. So, very few turkeys to be had, so Christmas lunch here is chips and one egg.

Linma I have been in Asda & Morrisons over the last few days and there were plenty of fresh turkeys and frozen turkeys in both supermarkets. We will not be getting any this year for Christmas. We have always found that most turkey that we have had at Christmas tasted bland if eaten by itself. Because you can buy turkey now at any time of the year we buy a small pack of (4) turkey breast at various times in the year and they are always juicy and tasty use them for a main meal and then make sandwiches for supper with what is left

I do not like turkey.
Will not be home for Christmas this year, but when I do , my favourite celebration dinner would be a sirloin joint.
I used to have a friend who always had egg and chips for Christmas dinner: something which I also got to like.

Did you know …
‘White eggs tend to come from less aggressive chickens than those that produce brown eggs.’ (QI)
So you can dispense with egg timers and if you want a ‘hard’ boiled egg, just choose a brown one, and for a ‘soft’ boiled egg, a white one.

Telly news just said that the arsey hens are on strike: that won't help with the egg situation.
