HUGHES, Jacques - 1699-1733

Posted by: Father Ryan

Notes / message: Hughes was born in Parteen, County Clare, Ireland in 1699. I believe his parents were planning to immigrate to Canada, and so named him Jacques, but they never went and when Jacques turned 15 he immigrated to Standish, and worked throughout Wigan as a miner. He married Marie O'Connell from Limerick, Ireland and they had 4 sons, John Hughes, James Hughes, Cornelius Hughes and Alphonse Hughes. Jacques is the ancestor of all the Hughes family in the Wigan area. The Hughes name is not English in origin, but Irish (in this case) or Welsh.
Requiring help with these family names:
      Jacques 1699-1733
      Marie 1700-1772
