Another photo of the 5th.Batt, taken somewhere in camp.I thought this was also in Egypt, but not to sure now. Again my uncle, Charles Acton, is second left with his hat in hand, perhaps a relative of yours might be on the photo. These again are possibly all Wigan men.
Brian these photos are realy good.
Since finding out that the pics my grandad always kept was of his brother{i think}who Joseph told me was the Manchesters i am finding all this info realy interesting.
Dont know if you have seen my pics they are under Wigan Soldiers on assorted and if you look closely you can see on the soldier on his own his arm badge has a 5 on it.
Please keep sending in your pics i would love to see his face on one of them, i will when i can be going to the history shop to see if they have any names of the men.
Thanking you J
This is more likely to have been taken at a pre-war annual training camp in England.
This picture could have been taken at Hollingworth Lake,Littleborough, near Rochdale in 1914. Several Manchester Regiment TA Battalions were based here prior to going to the murderous hellhole of Gallipoli.
There are several pics 'on the web' of the men at Hollingworth lake.
