In the Falklands War, 1982.this Avro Vulcan B2 carried out the Worlds longest bombing mission, flying from its RAF Waddington base to bomb Port Stanley Airfield. As far as I know it is still at Waddington as a Gate Guardian. The memorial stone is for 44(Rhodesia)squadron, based here in WW2. Photo'1986.

XM607 was the reserve aircraft on the first Black Buck and had to take over as the main aircraft went "tec" just after take off.
She was 1 of 5 Vulcans deployed to Wide Awake Airfield on Ascenion Island from where the raids were made, an 8000 mile round trip which as mentioned was the longest bombing raid made however I believe this has been superceeded by Tornado's from Marham during the Libyan conflict.
The pilot of XM607 on the raid was Martin Withers who is now the chief pilot of the "Vulcan to the Sky" Vulcan XH558.
XM607 is still at Waddington and at one time we had the reserve aircraft at Blackpool Airport XL391 which I had the pleasure of going on board for the princely sum of £1.50 this was the aircraft that gained fame as being offered for sale on E-Bay cant imagine what A.V.Roe would have made of that
