This photo of Ernie Ashcroft was taken in the late 1940s in his England strip.Who the photo is addressed to is Bert Ralph who is Ernies cousin, Bert went on to play for Wigan himself from 1950/1954,Berts career was cut short with a serious shoulder injury.
One of my playmates in the '50s was Janice Ashcroft. We lived in Teck Street, I don't remember exactly where she lived but certainly not far from me. Her father was a football player - I wonder if this is her father?

ernie was in my class at st williams 1930 -1936. I went into a pub in pemberton a few years ago and ernie was the landlord. He immediately said my name. I only played rugby once!

Earnie came to visit st Williams about 1960 he brought his caps with him and I remember he plonked one on my head to be honest, I had never heard of him and didn't know what the caps were for.. I was only 7 or 8 at the time. I found out in later years he is related to my cousin tony kehoe.
