The footplate crew pause for a photograph before LMS Black Five no. 5407 departs from Wigan Wallgate with the Southport Visitor train in the mid 1980s.

The gentleman on the right looks suspiciously like Driver T A Jones of Manchester Victoria, now sadly passed away.

My dad was a fireman on the Black Five in the 50s. Absolutely love steam engines and would love to think that these were still around, for all the magical reasons. When me and my brother Paul used to hear a steam train coming from Wallgate station, we'd run up King Street and on to the iron bridge so that we would be engulfed in the steam! Happy, happy days.
