Talk about inflation!

Undertaker receipt for the burial of Sarah Glazebrook, Hindley Cemetery (plot no. A1-66), 17th Dec 1912. Receipt to the value of £4 4s 0d.
Look at what you got for your money, quite a lot, would cost a little more today.

I doubt that £4.4s.0d, in, Dec., 1912, would equate to £3.300, the average cost of a full religious funeral at today's costing

If you have a burial,it adds to the cost. Another item that adds to the cost, is. If you own a grave, and it is in an authority where you no longer live, and you wish to open that grave. Most authorities will charge you double, as to what a person living in that authorities jurisdiction would be charged.

I found a historic inflation rate calculator on the web and £4-4s-0d from 1912 is approximately equivalent to £454 in today's terms.

John Whittle. I suppose John, you have to compare what a labourer's weekly wage would be in 1912. Most probably be in the range of one guinea, in comparison to what today's weekly wages are.

Hi Brian,

Sarah was my great grandmother, she was married to William Glazebrook. I am not sure whether you grandfather John Glazebrook was Williams brother or nephew.

Hope you are keeping well.
