The description on the back of photo says that it was working at John Pit August 1954, taken for repair at Kirkless NCB workshops Sept.1954 and was the 4th loco to be overhauled at those workshops.

Built by Hudswell Clarke, at Hunslet Leeds, in 1880 for Wigan, Coal & Iron Company. It worked for the NCB around Standish from 1950 until 1962 when it was scrapped.

What a tiny little smoke-box door.
What a waste scrapping good workhorses like these.
