Mmmmm..St Andrew's Ward Conservative Club!I bet that was a popular venue at the turn of the century. Was that key for keeping a few customers in or for keeping the riff raff out.
Was this gentleman any relation to the latter Wigan. M.P. Sir Francis Sharp Powell. whose statue is in Mesnes Park?.
It looks to me as though it may have been the key to the cupboard where they kept the extra extra strong bleach. I have however been proved wrong on many previous occasions.
Albert - he was the man the key was awarded to.
He was MP for Wigan twice - once between 1857 and 1859, and then from 1885 to 1910.He died in 1911.
So that's what they drink in Conservative Clubs Ozy. No wonder they talk funny!
Coincidentally, and also as it happens, I was only this very day presented with a glass phial, containing a fiery liquid brewed at a secret location, somewhere deep in the dark and mysterious forests of Bylorus. Although my talents at deciphering Cyrillic are somewhat limited, to say the least, it would appear this substance is capable of killing 99% of all household germs.......Dead!.....as well as engendering a feeling of well being when consumed that is.....Cheers!....Ozy.
Dtease, Ozy, What has all this drivel got to do with the photograph? Why are you both intent on ruining the topic?
