Centuries of tradition comes to an end. Crown Courts replaced Quarter Sessions, in 1972.
The Photograph, and write up, would have been taken, at the very end of the very last Quarter Session, in 1971.

Mr William Court Gully, was Speaker of the House of Commons--1895 to 1905.
Mr Selwyn Lloyd had that distinction,-- 1971 to 1976.

Barrister Anthony Hammond, mentioned in the news article, is a Wigan lad.
He retired as a Judge, a few years ago.

Tony Hammond is indeed at the front of the group.
early sixties he lived on park Road, his father was Jim Hammond who figured large in local politics

Norman Wooton was a renowned barrister a character in his own right a non driver who travelled by train and required transport arrangements from and to the stations . He presided in the Ken Dodd tax evasion case.
