Red Cross Hospital Plaque in St Wilfrid's Church, Standish

This is on a pillar at the back of the north aisle of the church.
Woodlands No. 1 Hospital was in The Woodlands, off Wigan Lane. This was the first Red Cross VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) Hospital in the region to receive wounded soldiers, on October 6th 1914. Woodlands No. 2 was in The Marie-Bonne, also off Wigan Lane. They were placed at the disposal of the Government by Lord & Lady Crawford in August 1914. They also offered Haigh Hall.
A photograph of The Beeches, with flags on a flagpole in front, is in David Smith's book 'About Standish'.
Sadly, the flag, appears not to have survived.
