This photo was given to my grandmother by the Mayor of Wigan, Mr.Fairhurst, probably in the 1930`s.
I believe that the cost of this canteen was raised by public subscription, does anyone know more details?

From `Stuff, Chronology, 1941` in wiganworld:-
"23rd June 1941 - Ambulance and mobile canteen, provided by Wigan and District Women's War Ambulance Fund presented to the Mayor at Market Square ceremony by Miss A. Fairhurst, ex-Mayoress."
